Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Edge Fails to Launch beginning today 15 May 2026. I see an hourglass after launch. I temporarily see the app in Task Manager and it closes. Rebooting the pc doesn't resolve - same behaviour. Modify / Repair / Reinstall Edge - still same behaviour.
I have 6 processes using msedgewebview2.exe. I end process tree on them and they immediately relaunch. I do not know what is calling them.
Steps 1 - 9 provided by the AI do not solve the problem.
In AI-suggested Step 10. Since Edge won't launch I cannot run anything in side of Edge, including to get the policy.
I am in the UK and there is no option to uninstall Edge.
While I could collect logs and run a Procmon trace the AI help does not explain how to get further help from Microsoft Support or where to submit the logs.

Same issue.
Edge 149+ will start again when disabling Trend Micro Security Agent.
we have a call logged with MS for the same issue with Edge Beta (149) / Dev (149) and Canary (150) all failing to open. Stable 148 is fine. we also have a similar issue with Chrome beta v149 - but that is temporarily fixed by renaming the user appdata folder
they have linked it to this Chromium bug and advised it should be updated in the next couple of days with a fix (v149+)
https://issues.chromium.org/issues/513491819
We believe this was likely introduced by one (or maybe needing both) of these changes in M149:
7796985: Enable kUseBoringSSLForRandBytes by default | https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/7796985
7808465: cleanup: Remove kUseBoringSSLForRandBytes | https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/7808465
Since this initialization is happening so early, the base::FeatureList code wouldn't have been set up early enough to have set it to true at this point. So, this UCRT getenv() call was simply skipped before.
We initially believed this was likely a race condition that might be infrequent enough to be otherwise unnoticeable. But we have users of Edge Beta reporting they can hit it reliably enough that it is impacting work.
Hello guys, I think I found a solution for this
Please try to install this:

Hello Chris Fors,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Before we proceed, may I know if there are any Event Viewer logs that you can collect of those crashing? Please let me know.

That being said, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so. Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides:
