I am experiencing an issue when trying to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center as part of integrating HubSpot with Outlook.

When I attempt to access the admin portal, I receive the following error:

“Switch to an account that has permission. Your account doesn’t have permission to view or manage this page in the Microsoft 365 Admin center.”

This occurs when I try to access https://admin.microsoft.com using my business email account.

Environment:

  • Outlook desktop with two Microsoft Exchange mailboxes configured in a single profile
  • Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online) setup
  • Attempting to connect HubSpot to Outlook

Additional context:

  • Both mailboxes are working correctly in Outlook after rebuilding the Outlook profile
  • The issue appears specifically when trying to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
  • I suspect this may be related to my account not having the correct admin role/permissions

Impact:

This issue is preventing me from completing the HubSpot–Outlook integration, as admin-level access appears to be required.I am experiencing an issue when trying to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center as part of integrating HubSpot with Outlook.

How do I resolve this issue?

    Hi @Caroline Mason

Based on the details provided, I understand that you are encountering a permission block while attempting to connect HubSpot to Outlook. When navigating to https://admin.microsoft.com using your business email account, the system displays the error message: “Switch to an account that has permission. Your account doesn’t have permission to view or manage this page in the Microsoft 365 Admin center.” This blocking error is preventing you from completing the required administrative consent steps for the HubSpot integration.

Based on technical research regarding this specific error message, it occurs because the business email account you are logging in with does not possess the necessary administrative privileges within your Microsoft 365 tenant to approve applications or grant tenant-wide consent.

To help you resolve this and get the integration completed, please consider the following points:

-What specific administrative role is currently assigned to your business account? To grant app consent or access the Admin Center, a user must be explicitly assigned an admin role in the backend.

-If you are an end-user or do not have high-level privileges, you will need to reach out to your company's IT Helpdesk or Global Administrator. You can ask them to either:

Temporarily assign your account an administrative role (such as Application Administrator or Exchange Administrator) so you can complete the HubSpot setup. Having multiple Exchange mailboxes configured within your single Outlook desktop profile does not affect your cloud administrative rights. Access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center is solely determined by the Entra ID (Azure AD) roles mapped to your specific user identity, completely independent of your local desktop setup.

Please coordinate with your IT administrator to check your account's role assignments and let me know if you need any further technical details or ran into another error code!

The account that is signing in to https://admin.microsoft.com does not have a Microsoft 365 admin role. Only users with an admin role (for example, Global admin) can open the Microsoft 365 admin center and perform tenant‑level tasks such as granting app permissions for integrations like HubSpot.

    To resolve the issue:

    1. Identify who the Microsoft 365 admin is for the tenant.
      • The admin is typically the person who purchased or set up the Microsoft 365 subscription.
      • If unsure, use the guidance in “How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?” from the referenced thread to locate the correct admin.
    2. Have the existing admin sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      • They must go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and confirm they can see the admin dashboard. Only an account with an admin role can access this page.
    3. Have the admin either:
      • Perform the HubSpot integration steps on behalf of the organization (for example, granting tenant‑wide consent to the HubSpot app if required), or
      • Assign an appropriate admin role to the business account that needs to perform the integration.
    4. If the integration requires app consent (common for third‑party apps):
      • The admin should follow the pattern described for admin consent in the Entra ID guidance: sign in as a Global Administrator, open the Enterprise application representing HubSpot, and grant admin consent for the requested permissions.
    5. If there is no other admin available (for example, the only admin account is inaccessible):
      • Use the support path described in the moderator answer about being locked out as the only admin: contact Microsoft support (or the reseller/partner) so the Microsoft Data Protection team can verify identity and restore or reassign admin access.

Until an account with an admin role signs in and either completes the HubSpot consent or grants the necessary admin role, the error “Switch to an account that has permission” will continue to appear and the integration cannot be completed.
