Hi Rakhi Dutta,
I understand how confusing this can be when Windows is searching for Bluetooth devices but your device never shows up in the list.
Just to clarify, Bluetooth devices usually cannot be added by typing the device name manually. Windows needs to detect the device while it is in pairing/discoverable mode first. If it does not appear, the issue is usually related to the device’s pairing mode, Bluetooth driver, or the Bluetooth adapter/settings on the PC.
To narrow this down, could you please confirm a few things?
- What type of Bluetooth device are you trying to connect, such as headphones, mouse, keyboard, speaker, phone, or another device?
- Does the same Bluetooth device show up when you try pairing it with another phone or computer?
- On your Windows 10 PC, do you see the Bluetooth toggle under Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices, or is the Bluetooth option missing completely?
- Has this device ever connected to this PC before?
In the meantime, you can try these steps:
- Make sure the Bluetooth device is not already connected to another phone, tablet, or PC. If it is, disconnect or forget it from that device first.
- Put the Bluetooth device into pairing mode again. This usually requires holding the power or pairing button until the light flashes, but the exact method depends on the device model.
- On your PC, turn Bluetooth off and back on: Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices, then switch Bluetooth off for a few seconds and turn it back on.
- Check that Airplane mode is off: Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane mode.
- Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter: Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Bluetooth > Run the troubleshooter.
- If the device still does not appear, open Device Manager, expand Bluetooth, right-click your Bluetooth adapter, and choose Update driver. If Windows cannot find a newer driver, it may be worth checking your PC manufacturer’s support website for the latest Bluetooth driver.
- If the Bluetooth adapter is shown in Device Manager but still not working properly, you can also try uninstalling the Bluetooth adapter from Device Manager and then restarting the PC. Windows should attempt to reinstall it automatically after restart.
While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.
