    Hi Jerry A Driscoll

I understand how inconvenient this can be, especially if you were trying to use Copilot specifically to create images.

To help narrow this down, could you please share a few more details?

    • Are you using Copilot from the Windows Copilot app, Microsoft Edge/browser, or the Microsoft 365 Copilot app?
    • Are you signed in with a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?
    • What happens when you ask Copilot to create an image? Do you see an error message, does the image option disappear, or does it just not respond?
    • Does the same issue happen if you try a new chat or use Copilot from another browser/device?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

    • Start a new Copilot chat and test with a very simple prompt, such as: “Create an image of a blue car on a sunny street.”
    • Sign out of Copilot, close the app/browser completely, then sign back in.
    • Try using Copilot from a browser instead of the Windows app or test from another device if possible.
    • Make sure Microsoft Edge, the Copilot app, and Windows are fully updated, then restart your device.
    • If only certain prompts fail, try rewording the prompt in a simpler way and avoid requests that may involve restricted or sensitive content.

Please note that Microsoft Q&A is a user-to-user support forum, so I cannot directly check backend service status or enable the feature for your account from here.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Copilot image generation is not indicated as down in the provided information. However, there are important limitations and prerequisites that may explain why image generation is not available:

    1. Image generation availability
      • In Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot in PowerPoint, AI image generation uses DALL·E 3 and is exposed through prompts like “Create an image…”.
      • Generated images in Copilot are currently available only to Copilot Pro users and are not yet available to Commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot users.
    2. Account and subscription requirements
      • The image feature in PowerPoint is only available to:
        • Work or school accounts with a qualifying Microsoft 365 for business subscription (no separate Copilot add-on required), or
        • Microsoft accounts with Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium.
      • Some image-related capabilities (such as image upload in certain Copilot experiences) work only with work/school accounts and are not available for personal accounts, even if using Microsoft 365 Family/Premium.
    3. Platform/experience differences
      • Image generation in Copilot in PowerPoint is accessed by asking Copilot to “Create an image…”, which then uses DALL·E 3 to generate an image for insertion into a slide.
      • In other Copilot experiences, image upload or generation may be disabled or limited depending on the account type and the specific app or site.

If image generation is missing or not responding, the most likely causes based on the available information are:

    • The signed-in account is a commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot user (where generated images are not yet available), or
    • The experience being used does not support image generation for that account type (for example, some personal Microsoft 365 scenarios where image upload/generation is restricted).
