A built-in feature that lets users create, manage, and share events directly within their GroupMe chat groups.
To share a Microsoft 365 Family subscription with a family member’s laptop, the subscription owner must share the subscription correctly and the invitee must join the owner’s Microsoft family group and accept the sharing invitation.
Use these steps:
- Confirm the subscription type
- The subscription must be Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Premium. Sharing is not available for Microsoft 365 Basic or Personal.
- Only the subscription owner can share the subscription.
- Send a sharing invitation
- The owner signs in to the Microsoft 365 Subscriptions sharing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing
- Select Share or Start sharing.
- Choose how to share:
- Email invite: enter the family member’s email and select Invite.
- Create link: select Create link, then Copy link and send it via email, text, etc.
- Join the family group and accept sharing
- The invitee receives an email from Microsoft.
- They must select Get started, which takes them to Microsoft Family Safety.
- They then select Join now to join the subscription owner’s family group.
- Only after joining the family group will the subscription dashboard show Start sharing and grant access.
- If “It looks like you’re already in a family group” or “won’t let her join”
- Sharing is only possible if the invitee is in the subscription owner’s family group.
- If the invitee is already in another family group, they must leave that group first, then accept the new invitation and join the owner’s family group.
- Check sharing status and resend if needed
- The owner goes again to the sharing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing
- Check under Share subscription:
- If it shows Pending invite, the invite has not been accepted; use Resend invite.
- If the person is listed but not in the family group, use Invite to family.
- If already shared with five people, stop sharing with someone else before adding a new member.
- Install Microsoft 365 on the wife’s laptop
- After she has joined the family group and sharing is active, she signs in to her own Microsoft account dashboard and selects Install Microsoft 365 on all your devices to install the apps and use her OneDrive storage.
Note: AI features like Copilot and extended storage are only available to the subscription owner and cannot be shared, even after sharing the Family subscription.
