Hello LGR Business Operations Manager,

Thanks for replying.

Code 43 for this is a generic "Something is wrong" with the device. Usually this will point to the driver.

In this case, please try to follow these steps:

  • Right click on the Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU.
  • Select "Uninstall driver".
  • Either restart the computer for Windows to reinstall the driver automatically, or find the driver in the OEM website to install and then restart.

Follow these steps in order on the Surface Pro (11th Edition) to resolve the Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU Code 43 and restore external monitors:

    1. Make sure Windows and Surface firmware are fully updated
    • Open the Surface app (search for “Surface” from Start).
    • Go to Help & support and check the update status.
    • If updates are available, select Check for updates to open Windows Update and install all available updates for Surface drivers and firmware.
    • Restart the device when finished.
    1. Reset the graphics driver
    • Press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B.
    • The screen may blink and a beep may sound; this reloads the graphics driver.
    • After this, check whether the external monitors start working.
    1. Check basic external monitor setup
    • Ensure cables between Surface and monitors are firmly connected.
    • If using a dock, dongle, or adapter, disconnect and reconnect it; if possible, try a different cable.
    • On the keyboard, press Windows logo key + P and select Extend.
    1. Update the display (graphics) driver from Device Manager
    • Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display adapters.
    • Right-click Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU and select Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab and select Update driver.
    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software and complete the wizard.
    • Restart the Surface and test the monitors again.
    1. Roll back the display driver (if the problem started after the last update)
    • In Device Manager, under Display adapters, right-click Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU and select Properties.
    • On the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver (if the button is available).
    • Follow the prompts, then restart the Surface and test the monitors.
    1. Uninstall and reinstall the display driver
    • In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
    • Right-click Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU and select Uninstall device.
    • If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
    • Restart the Surface.
    • After restart, open Device Manager again, expand Display adapters, right-click the GPU, and select Update driverSearch automatically for updated driver software.
    • Restart once more and test external monitors.
    1. If external monitors still do not work
    • Power-cycle each external display: unplug it from power for a minute, plug it back in, and ensure the correct input (HDMI/DisplayPort/USB-C) is selected in the monitor’s on-screen menu.
    • If the setup previously worked and suddenly stopped after the update, repeat the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B shortcut and a full restart.

If, after these steps, Device Manager still shows Code 43 for the Qualcomm Adreno X1-85 GPU and external displays do not work, contact Surface Support with details of the recent update and the Code 43 status.
