Scheduling and managing events using Outlook.com calendar
Thank you for the update Owen Stone
Please reply with only these non-sensitive details:
- Does the message subject always contain the word birthday?
- Do the old birthday entries appear after temporarily turning the Birthday calendar back on?
- Do you see any Facebook, imported, or subscribed calendar under Other calendars?
- Is the reminder email visible in Sent Items, or is it only received in the Inbox?
Meanwhile, try the steps below.
1) Re-enable the Birthday calendar temporarily, then delete the unwanted birthday events
- Go to Outlook.com Calendar.
- Select Add calendar.
- Select Birthdays.
- Turn on the Birthday calendar for the affected Outlook.com/Hotmail account.
- In My calendars, select Birthdays so the birthday events are visible.
- Search for or open the unwanted birthday entry.
- Delete the unwanted birthday event.
- Repeat this for any old Facebook-related birthdays.
- After removing the unwanted birthday events, go back to Add calendar > Birthdays and turn the Birthday calendar off again.
This helps confirm whether the reminders are still being generated from birthday data connected to the account.
2) Check whether the reminders are coming from an added or subscribed calendar
If the old Facebook birthdays were imported or subscribed as a separate calendar in the past, turning off the built-in Birthday calendar may not stop those reminders.
- Go to Outlook.com Calendar.
- In the left calendar list, check all calendars under:
- My calendars
- Other calendars
- Look for any calendar related to:
- Birthdays
- Contacts
- Events
- Imported calendars
- Subscribed calendars
- Select the menu next to the unwanted calendar.
- Remove, unsubscribe, or hide that calendar if the option is available.
- Then check whether the “Note to self” birthday email stops the next day.
3) Check Outlook.com rules as a temporary workaround
This will not remove the hidden source of the reminder, but it can help stop the unwanted emails from staying in the Inbox while Outlook.com support investigates.
- Go to Outlook.com Mail.
- Select Settings.
- Go to Mail > Rules.
- Create a rule for messages where:
- The sender is your own email address, and
- The subject or body contains the birthday reminder wording, such as birthday.
- Set the action to move the message to Deleted Items or another folder.
- Save the rule.
4) Contact Outlook.com support for hidden or legacy account data
If the emails continue after the birthday events and subscribed calendars are removed, the source may be hidden or legacy account data that cannot be accessed from the public forum.
- Sign in to Outlook.com Mail.
- Select Help from the top menu.
- Search for birthday reminder emails or calendar reminder emails.
- If the self-help results do not resolve the issue, scroll to Still need help? and select Yes.
- Include this information in the support request
