I have a Windows Server 2022 with Remote Desktop Services installed. It was running fine before this, suddenly all the remote desktop client unable to RDP into the server. Below is the error prompt at client PC:

After a server hard reboot, the service come back normal.

From the event, I can see below error:

Below are the licenses that are installed in the server:

My question is why suddenly the server giving an error of "RD Licensing grade period has expired"?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thank you.

regards

    Hello,

The error message mentions that the “RD Licensing grace period has expired and licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has not been configured.”

This means now the grace period has expired and it requires a valid license to continue operating.

Here are the steps to configure the licensing mode:

    Specify a License Server:

    1. On the RD Connection Broker computer, open Server Manager.
    2. In Server Manager, select Remote Desktop Services > Overview > Edit Deployment Properties > RD Licensing.
    3. Specify a license server, and then select Add.

    Set the Licensing Mode:

    1. Select the Remote Desktop licensing mode (either Per User or Per Device, as appropriate for your deployment).
    2. If you use domain-joined servers for your RDS deployment, you can use both Per User and Per Device CALs.
    3. If you use workgroup servers for your RDS deployment, you have to use Per Device CALs. In that case, Per User CALs are not permitted.

After configuring the licensing mode, you should also ensure that the RDS server has a valid license installed. Based on the information provided, it appears that the server has three different licenses installed. So, you need to determine which license is appropriate for your environment. You can use the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager tool to create reports to track the RDS Per User CALs that have been issued by a Remote Desktop license server.
