Windows 11 Pro Virtual Hyper-V VM Will not Work as an Enhanced Session

I am running Windows 11 on my PC, and I cannot seem to get the Windows 11 VM to enter an enhanced session. It operates normally as a basic session, but when I try to enter an advanced session it looks like the VM returns to the lock screen and I cannot see anything besides the background of the lock page. As of writing this post the screenshots kept failing to upload, so I'll do my best to describe the issue.

I boot up the VM for the first time, and I went into an enhanced session like I always have, but I couldn't see anything besides the wallpaper of the lock screen when you first log in. I had already setup the entire OS as a windows 11 Pro machine that I had created using the official windows 11 ISO file. I thought it was awful strange that this was the only machine I have ever run that refused to do the enhanced session. So I did the only thing I could think of, I went into a basic session instead. Everything worked completely fine.

Now I'll get into how the issue seems to work, no matter what page I am visiting on the machine in a basic session, as soon as I try to enter an enhanced session it returns to the lock screen, but with no way to log in, its just the wall paper, accessibility settings, and the power menu all on the bottom right. Then if I pop back into a basic session everything is back to normal, just how I had left it before going into an Enhanced Session.

It'd be great if someone had a solution, even a way to just scale up the window so I can see better. Thanks.

    Hi a_reck,

Please make sure the Enhanced Mode is allowed in both Enhanced Session Mode Policy and Enhanced Session Mode in Hyper-V Settings.

Open services.msc and restart the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service (vmms) and Hyper-V Host Computer Service (vmcomputer).

Try turning off "Windows Hello" in Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in options.

Also make sure the Integration Services are up to date.

    Hello,

    same issue:

-- Please make sure the Enhanced Mode is allowed in both Enhanced Session Mode Policy and Enhanced Session Mode in Hyper-V Settings. **done

--Open services.msc and restart the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service (vmms) and Hyper-V Host Computer Service (vmcomputer).**done

--Try turning off "Windows Hello" in Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in options. ** cannot turn off - setting comes back

--Also make sure the Integration Services are up to date. **OK

    running win 11 pro 24h2 ARM, hyper-v VM 11 pro 24h2 ARM

    using microsoft account for logon

    cannot RDP or enhanced connect

any idea why i cannot turn off the setting:

On Windows Settings \ Accounts \ Sign-in option, turn off Require Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts.

    thanks

    I've got he same issue.

    Host is Win11 Ent 23H2 22631.4169

I've created a VM Win11Pro from bootable ISO (just downloaded from MS - so latest version)

Accidentally used my Work account, but I could setup the whole VM and log in perfectly.

The I deleted it, and created a new one from the same ISO, this time using my personal microsoft account instead of work account.

Choose to NOT restore settings from other PC, but "set up as new pc" during installation.

After installation, I could not log in. Only got the background screen, and only the bottom right 3 icons for keyboards, accessiblity and power options.

If I change the HyperV settings to disable "enhanced session" , then it I can login. If I enable again the "enhanced session", I cannot login.

So in my experience, the big difference here is the account used during installation of the VM .. work account vs personal account ...

    Found it !

    https://community.spiceworks.com/t/cannot-get-to-lock-screen-of-hyper-v-guest-when-using-enhanced-session/963462/3

No need to disable Windows Hello. But if you "Require Windows Hello sign-in for

Microsoft Accounts", the MS account users cannot sign in using RDP. And if there are no local accounts, nobody can login from RDP. Thus "empty" screen.

So, solution is to disable "Only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device"

And that's why it was working for the Work account, but not for the Personal account !
