Windows XP on Windows 10 with Hyper-V: Mouse not captured in Remote Desktop session
We have an old physical Windows XP system (32-bit) we want to virtualize in Hyper-V.
With an older 32-bit Disk2vhd utility we have created a VHD of this machine.
In Hyper-V Manager on Windows 10 we have created a Gen-1 virtual machine with the VHD of the physical system.
When this virtual machine is started everything seems to be working fine except for mouse support.
When using a mouse we are getting a 'Mouse not captured in Remote Desktop session' pop-up.
How can we fix this?
Is there maybe a beter product and topics group to send this question?

2024-04-08T02:52:00+00:00 Hello,
I'm not using Hyper-V, but I can offer some suggestions from the Remote Desktop Services perspective:
If the physical device need to be redirected in an RDP session, we typically verify first if the local device is selected in the Remote Desktop Connection application.
Then, under the Device Manager of the VM in Hyper-V, verify if the mouse is listed.
For further troubleshooting, check if the group policy is set correctly under: Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection.
If all the above RDS side checks don't work, it may be highly relevant to Hyper-V. Here are two articles that may help:
Mouse not captured in Remote Desktop session (thewindowsclub.com)
Hyper-V Mouse input not captured in Windows 11/10 (thewindowsclub.com)

If you determine that this issue pertains more to Hyper-V settings, you may follow the product path: Windows Client for IT Pros / Storage & High Availability / Virtualization & Hyper-V.
