Hello there ! I have a new installed Windows 2022 server Standard in Core edition and have issues with the activation. When I check the option which server version I can activate to, I get Datacenter only even I have the StandardEval installed.

I used the PS command dism /online /Get-Targeteditions:

Image version: 10.0.20348.2031

Editions that can be upgraded to:

Target Editions: ServerDatacenterCor

also checked the current version:

dism /online /Get-Currenteditions:

ServerStandardevalCor

I also have another Windows 2022 Standard server in Desktop edition downloaded from the Evaluation center and I was able to activate it with no issues at all.

Is there a way to activate it, or do I have to reinstall to a desktop version ?

Thank you !

    Hi Petr KK

Based on your description, you may have installed the wrong version. Windows Server 2022 Standard Core can only be upgraded to Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Core, not to desktop. Therefore, you will need to reinstall Windows Server 2022 Standard Desktop and then activate it with your license key.

If you need further assistance about system activation, please see Support Center Contact Info. | Microsoft Learn.

    Hope it helps.

    Kind regards,

    Lei

Thank for your answer. However I would like to keep Standard core not desktop. Is it possible to have standard core instead of desktop version ?

    Thank you !

    Hi,

if you already have Windows Server 2022 StandardEval installed, but you only see the Datacenter version option when you activate it, it may be because your key doesn't work with the Standard edition. Make sure you're using the key for Windows Server 2022 Standard edition. If you already have a key for the Standard edition, you can try running the following command in the command prompt to change the key:

    slmgr.vbs /ipk <Standard Edition Product Key>

Then you can try activating the Windows Server 2022 Standard edition.
