Data governance: where is the Data Map?

Free version of Purview Data Governance. M365 E3.

In the portal, Data Governance solutions offer Data Catalog and Data Lifecycle Management but as far as I can tell Data Map is nowhere to be found.

Got it, thanks. It would be helpful if this were noted in the documentation a bit more explicitly: wasn't sure if this was an issue with the M365 tier or with roles or whatever. Thanks again for prompt answer.

You are correct in observing that Data Map isn't visible in the free version of Microsoft Purview that's included with Microsoft 365 E3. That's because the free version only includes a limited subset of features, primarily:

Data Catalog (basic)
Data Map history (read-only view)

However, the full Data Map experience - which enables scanning, lineage tracking, metadata management, classification, and integration with data sources - is only available in the enterprise version of Microsoft Purview.

To unlock the full set of data governance capabilities (including full access to the Data Map), you would need to set up a Microsoft Purview account in Azure and use the enterprise-tier services.
