Account Deactivated Without Clear Reason — No Response to Ticket for Over a Month (Azure for Students)

Hi Azure Community,

I’m a student using the Azure for Students subscription, and I’m reaching out for help because my account has been deactivated, and I’ve received no clear explanation for the action.

Here’s what happened:

  • My Azure for Students account was deactivated with a generic message stating I had "violated the Terms & Conditions."

I never received any specific reason or prior warning.

  • I opened a support ticket over a month ago (Ticket ID: 2505130030009390 ), but I haven’t received any response or follow-up to this day.

This account was being used solely for educational and personal learning purposes — I did not engage in any crypto mining, abuse, or automation.

I have tried escalating through all available channels:

  • No option to escalate in the portal (probably due to my subscription type).
  • Tried emailing general Microsoft contact addresses, but no action yet.

This issue is affecting my learning projects and coursework. I’m kindly requesting that someone from Microsoft or the community help escalate this or point me to the right person/team who can at least provide clarity on the violation and whether I have any appeal options.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello vinay tilada,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the suspension of your Azure for Students subscription. Based on the details you provided, including the support ticket and notification from the Azure Safeguards Team, your subscription was disabled due to network activity originating from your virtual machine that resembled brute-force traffic.

Azure automated monitoring systems detected external brute-force traffic from your VM (n8n) on May 12, 2025. This activity was flagged as a violation of the Microsoft Azure Acceptable Use Policy and led to the immediate suspension of your Azure for Students subscription. While this may not have been intentional, public-facing VMs with open ports (e.g., RDP, SSH) are often exploited and can trigger automated security enforcement actions.

In your case, your VM had an active public IP address (98.**.**.63), which likely made it vulnerable to such exploitation or misuse. Once flagged, Azure for Students subscriptions are automatically locked down to prevent further risk or policy breach.

Can the Subscription Be Recovered?

Unfortunately, Azure for Students is a limited, one-time grant and once suspended for T&C violations, it typically cannot be reinstated. Deleting the VM or resource group after the fact does not reverse the enforcement. However, if you believe this was a false-positive or if corrective steps were taken promptly, a manual review may be possible under certain conditions.

Try visiting the Azure Feedback Portal and submit your case for re-evaluation, referencing your support ticket and subscription ID:
