Unable to log in to Teams on android phone

I hope this is the right place to post a question.

I am unable to log into my personal MS Teams account on my android phone. After I input my email address for my account and input the security code it sends to my email, it brings up an error message saying,

Sign-In error Looks like you are not using Teams. Check that you've been invited by the org you're trying to sign in to. You can also set up Teams for your org by selecting Create new account.

The options are "Dismiss" and "Set up Teams".

Nothing I do is working and I always end up getting this error message.

It may be pertinent to mention that the account I am using to log in is a skype account I set up years ago through skype. I have been using skype with this account for many years. With the recent phase-out of skype I followed the steps to convert it into a Teams account and have been using it with Teams on my Windows desktop PC, both in the app and in the browser, without issue so far. This is the first time I am trying to log in on android.

What I have tried so far:

  • Tried to log in multiple times with the security code method - got same error message as above
  • Tried to log in through the QR code given by the desktop app and the browser app when clicking the three-dot menu > "download the mobile app" - got same error message as above
  • Tried opening teams through a mobile browser - it opens up the mobile app but does not let me log. Also tried directly going to teams.live.com on the chrome and Brave browser apps on android (says browser isn't supported, but they are updated)
  • Logged into account.live.com using this account to see if there are any conversion steps left to do, checked that everything is in order; everything seems to be working fine, fully-functioning MS account.
  • Tried both "dismiss" and "set up teams" and tried logging in with my credentials - got same error message as above

Other possibly relevant info:

Initially when trying to download Teams through the google play store, it did not work for some reason. It did not bring up an error message, just simply would not install. I ended up installing Teams through Aptoide, and google play recognizes that it is installed, and the any links anywhere saying "open the teams app" open up the app succesfully.

Thanks

    Hi LLLFFF

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum support.

Based on the information you've provided, it appears that the login issue is specific to Android devices, while other devices can log in successfully. This seems to be a quite new problem, so I'll need some additional information from you to accurately diagnose it.

Could you please provide the following additional information:

    • What specific Android device model are you currently using?
    • What is the current Android version running on that device?
    • Could you please provide a screenshot of the error message you receive when trying to download Teams from Google Play Store?

I'm looking to hearing from you soon
