Surface RT Type Cover Not Working

Anonymous

Hi there, thanks for looking. I have a type cover that isn't even being acknowledged or anything. I attempt to type on it and nothing is working. The backlights aren't even coming on for the keys. I've tried everything from refreshing my surface to updating the software on both the surface itself and the keyboard but nothing is working. If someone could help with this it would be much appreciated.

    Hi there,

I made it to the device manager but I'm unable to locate the "Other devices" Node.

    Hello

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Type Cover on your Surface RT. Rest assured, we are here to help.

    Please do try the following:

    1. Go to your Desktop

**2.**Right-swipe for Charms, select the gear for Settings

    3. Control Panel

    4. Device Manager

    5. You should see the Node "Other Devices" and in there there would be at least 1 "Unknown Device"

    6. Right Click the Unknown Device and then click on "Update Driver Software..."

    7. Select the option to "Browse my computer for driver software"

    8. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

    9. Select the Keyboard Node

    10. And then select "HID Keyboard Device" as the model and then click on Next and it should install

Let us know if any of this helps.

    Hello again JHerring5752,

Thanks for the quick feedback. In your list there under "Device Manager", do you see anything that has an exclamation mark on it?

If yes, proceed with steps 5 through 8.

If not, then skip all steps and proceed with Steps 9 and 10.

When you are done, shut down your device, and restart.

Let us know how it goes.
