Microsoft offers no true details on the docking station, but after studying the picture they have of it and describes that it does recharge the tablet, I do believe it does it via the standard USB port.

If true, you can use the wide variety of USB chargers with it as well.  BUT, this is just a guess.

The docking station "DOES" recharge the tablet!  It does have its own power supply as well.

If in doubt, wait for others to order and comment on it here in the forum.  The preliminary reviews of the Surface 3 itself have been coming around as "extremely positive" from those who are using the loaner models issued to news agencies.

I "may" get one myself to include the docking station.  They do not ship out until May 5th and more information may come out on them.  Keep the web link that Clare\_Hs provided and it will be updated when more information is released.

The current Surface tablets cannot be charged via the USB port (not wired for it).  The Surface 3 is a completely different animal compared to all the other tablets (somewhat).

You have to wait until they become available in order to get details.  There is another way the tablet can be charged up and that would be with the data buss connector (connector at the bottom for attaching the keyboard/cover).  However, the tablet is designed to have the keyboard/cover attached while in the docking station.

That only leaves the USB port.

Hey!  Who knows.  This will probably be an "actual working model"!!!!!!!!!

I am planning on getting one myself to include the docking station.

There will be somebody here on the forum that will describe it when they get delivered theirs and tell if it works, how it works, and most likely; what doesn't.

Oh yes!  You can charge a device via a standard USB port (in fact, any port that has a positive/negative power feed).  The computer/device has to be wired for it.  The current Surface models are not (lack of vision).

    Hi James Vinyard,

I also guess Surface 3 can be charged through the standard USB port instead of the micro-USB port. However, I heard someone said the standard USB port doesn't support charging function... So, it confuses me...
