Hello, PhilipMildren!
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concern. We are sorry to learn about your Surface Pro 7 that only charges via Surface USB-C. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out.
Please allow us to ask these questions to make sure what actually happens:
- Is the LED on the charger's connector on or off? Or is it blinking?
- What is displayed in the battery icon status when the charger is plugged in?
- Does your device run on battery or does it turn off right after unplugging the charger?
- Please post a screenshot of what you see on the Device Manager with the said error code you see.
- Any further details you think that would greatly help is welcome.
In the meantime, please ensure the following are performed on the device:
- Check for Windows Update:
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates
Please restart your device to apply the updates.
- Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
- Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo. If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely: Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Let us know how it goes.
