Just today, my Surface Pro 7 i5 wont charge when connected to the stock charger but does charge with a USB-C charger. The battery indicator wont change to show its on battery and then I noticed this in Device Manager under Surface TCon:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE

I have disabled the device, then re-enabled. I have attempted to reinstall drivers. I have ran the Surface Diag tool, Nothing has changed. I have restarted it, have shut it down and restarted. Not sure what to do next.

I did a reset on windows, hoping that would fix the issue but it didnt.

If you still have issues after using the downloadable recovery image to wipe and
    reimage https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage you need to
    contact support
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4051701/global-customer-service-phone-numbers

    • ask for Surface support. You need an exchange

    Hello, PhilipMildren!

Apologies for the delayed response. May we know if you uninstalled this specific driver?

After that, install the driver pack from this page >>> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=100419

Click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next. If it doesn't match, choose the one that is nearest to it.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z

    • Is the LED on the charger's connector on or off? Or is it blinking?
      • Yes, LED is on, but there was a caution sign on the battery icon while charging. After disconnecting, the battery icon would continue to show it was still on AC power, other times the icon would change to reflect it was unplugged.
    • What is displayed in the battery icon status when the charger is plugged in?
      • A caution sign icon was on the battery icon.
    • Does your device run on battery or does it turn off right after unplugging the charger?
      • system runs while on battery. But it would not change power status, meaning the power plan would not change to reflect whether it was plugged in or run in power saving mode.
    • Please post a screenshot of what you see on the Device Manager with the said error code you see.
    • Any further details you think that would greatly help is welcome

    Hello, PhilipMildren!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concern. We are sorry to learn about your Surface Pro 7 that only charges via Surface USB-C. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out.

Please allow us to ask these questions to make sure what actually happens:

    • Is the LED on the charger's connector on or off? Or is it blinking?
    • What is displayed in the battery icon status when the charger is plugged in?
    • Does your device run on battery or does it turn off right after unplugging the charger?
    • Please post a screenshot of what you see on the Device Manager with the said error code you see.
    • Any further details you think that would greatly help is welcome.

In the meantime, please ensure the following are performed on the device:

    • Check for Windows Update:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo. If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely: Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

You can also visit this page to help you what to do when Surface battery won’t charge.

Let us know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z
