Text select pointer goes completely white colored when hovering over black text with a white background.

Hello, a couple of days ago, windows updates installed a new AMD display driver. Since then, the text select pointer has been going completely white colored when I hover over black text with a white background (This happens on all websites and on both Edge & Chrome, so it seems like a driver issue) and then it becomes extremely hard to tell where the mouse pointer is, because the white color blends well with the white background. However, if I move the mouse pointer a bit and also click 1 time, the text select cursor goes back to being black colored (which is what it is supposed to be when it is hovering over black text)

Some notes:

  • The machine is a Lenovo laptop.
  • OS: Windows 11
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics 2.10 GHz
  • RAM: 8GB
  • The new driver version with the issue: 31.0.12016.9
  • I clean installed windows 11 today and the issue still persists.
  • Before I clean installed windows 11, I rolled back to the previous driver using Device Manager, and that fixed the issue.

Hi, guys. I have got a new, simple and complete solution from a sensor tech supporter of Lenovo. It works perfectly for me. The followings are the details.

    1. Open Notebook, and fill it in with the following Code, as shown: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm]

"OverlayTestMode"=dword:00000005 2. Save the file with the format”.reg“, the name is arbitrary, for example as FixCursorBug.3. Double-click the FixCursorBug.reg, and continue till new Infos are merged into the registry.4. Restart the OS.5. Test and enjoy it.

    Hi Wasem,

Here is a quick fix. Change the color of the pointer in the settings. It will work like a charm. Go to Settings > Ease of access > Mouse pointer > Change pointer color. Select a custom color.

You can change the Text Select icon to "beam_r.cur".

There is an open bug report on the Chromium project regarding this form input invisible / white cursor issue:

    https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1366924&q=component%3AInternals>GPU&sort=-modified

It is also mentioned in the AMD forums here:

Thanks for the help, but I would not like to mess with registry although it may be the only solution, so I'd rather to live with the bug. However, thanks for helping the people on here as well.
