Hey Tomaz.
Really weird issue, annoying too. I dug a little more, and noticed the Brother link I shared above, doesn't have the details of the Windows security I disabled. I'm not sure whether I assumed them from the mention of the firewall and security, or found it somewhere else, but this is what I did.
You could check what you tried against these steps.
- Open Windows Security (from start menu or icon in tooltray). From this main window, option list on the left:
- Under "Virus & Threat protection settings", click "Manage settings", disable "Realtime protection", on the assumption the Brother software is trustworthy :-) .
- Under "Firewall & Network protection", click on Domain Network, turn that firewall off.
- Repeat this for Private and Public networks.
- Under "App & browser control", go to "Reputation-based protection" and I believe I turned of "Potentially unwanted app unblocking"
I think this was all, although it was a few months ago.
NB, I don't have third party antivirus installed, only the default Windows Security (Defender?) and Windows Firewall. If you have any others, disable them as well
When you're done, re-enable all those again.
Back to your comments - You have the same symptoms as I had and others had - the installer starts and disappears. This turned out (for me and others) to be Windows security blocking / terminating the app or some functionality.
I never found any message in the security or event logs though, which is unexpected.
Microsoft has some troubleshooting options for app installations being blocked. You could search for those. I can't test them solving it, now that I've fixed it for myself.
I was only the Brother installer that was blocked for me too, never any other apps. I've updated and installed many apps on the one PC over almost 2 years, with no problems. I also only had this on one which was running Windows 11. Other PCs with win10 were fine. I didn't want to re-install all the dev software and many other apps.
