HP Scanner's broke with 24H2 updates

After the 24H2 updates the HP Scanner 2000s2 and the N4000 series scanners will not work. It all happened when the host USB drivers updated. Has anyone had this issue and if so do you have a fix. All scanners in our school district were working great until the 24H2 was pushed out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I found a bit of a workaround for this issue on 24H2, when going to device manager and selecting one of the imaging devices and going to Properties, go to the Driver tab and select Update Driver > Browser my Computer for Drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers

This will show you two drivers for the scanner you selected, the top one is TWAIN and the bottom one is WIA, choose which ones applies to your use case that will make it work**,** these are basically sorted alphabetically based on a property that isn't even shown on the list.

First, make sure this December 10, 2024 was installed:

    KB5048667

    Restart after confirming.

    TODAY:

I spoke to HP support and the following will need to be tested.

via admin, go to command prompt

    Run the command:

    pnputil /delete-driver escl.inf /uninstall /force

    You will get a

    Driver package installed

Failed to delete driver package: the specified file is not an installed OEM INF.

Try scanning again and see if it works. You can also check on Device Manager under Imaging Device and making sure only ONE is showing for your printer and not two devices. If it shows (USB) this is HPEsclscan.inf, if it shows no (USB) then it uses escl.inf. The goal is to make sure eSCL.inf is uninstalled.

Tested with HP and we are 1 worked and 1 failed. So, 50/50.

We did a lot of troubleshooting for the one that failed but nada.

But please share your experience and if it worked for you.

According to Microsoft, the December 10th KB5048667 update fixed the issue:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2

Please post if this update did succeed in fixing your scanner. Testing on one of our computers at a location right now.

I have the same problem. I did fix it by rolling back the update, but in our firm we must have everything up to date so an update from microsoft that resolves this issue would be wonderful.

I will try to re-install the drivers tomorrow and update this message with the results.

Hi, I’m Vinay. Thanks for reaching out.

I’m here to help you today.

Reinstall Scanner Drivers by clicking Press win + X - Select Device Manager - expand Imaging devices or other devices - right click on those drivers and select Uninstall device then restart the computer to Reinstall drivers automatically.

You can also download and install the latest drivers from HP’s support website, specifically for the 2000s2 and N4000 series.

Install HP Scan Extended utility from HP website and check if it can detect scanners.

Also check if there is any firmware updates in HP website.

I hope this resolves your issue! If you have any queries, please let me know.
