Windows 11 - 24H2 Update Performance Issues

I have attempted to install the 24H2 update on two different occasions roughly a month apart, but keep running into performance issues.

Upon installation, my entire device runs significantly slower than before. This includes both menus of the operating system and separate applications (lock screen, settings, web browser, video player, games, etc). This appears in the form of longer load times, and a decreased number of frames per second, to the point certain applications are unusable.

Each time I have checked for additional software updates, driver updates, application updates, etc. Additionally my resource usage in task manager is no different than prior to the update, so my only solution so far has been to rollback the updates.

Any sort of advice to help diagnose and potentially fix this issue would be appreciated.

I appreciate the advice when it comes to creating backups of my data, which I have done so previously using both a physical drive and a server. However the issue would still be present in which Windows is pushing the update toward my device despite the remaining instability issues. I do not believe there are Safeguard Holds for my specific device given that they are still attempting to get it onto my device.

Despite setting my feature update to remain on 23H2, I am still able to install the latest security updates with no issues. I believe my best course of action is to keep an eye on the progress of the 24H2 update from other users reports and Microsoft themselves, then attempt to make the upgrade again once it appears to have improved.

    Some computers have safeguard holds.

Performing in place upgrades or turning off holds is not recommended.

Setting target feature update may prevent upgrades when there are no safeguard holds.

The best option is to use third party software to make free or pay backup images:

(Acronis, Aoemi, EaseUS, Hasleo, Macrium, Paragon, etc.)

    I have the same problem.

If I move the mouse back and forth across the screen, the CPU temp goes to 212 and the fan to 90% on Balanced mode.

It won't let me rollback as there is nothing to rollback to.

    Hello Ryan,

Regarding the specs of my device, I am currently using an Intel i5-1135G7 with 8.00 GB of memory.

I have successfully rolled back my update prior to the post, so there isn't any level of urgency. I am just looking for a permanent fix to the problem, whether that be waiting a couple of months for a more stable patch, or to make some changes my end that allows the update to work as expected.

    Thank you,

    Ash

    Hello,Ash VJ

    Welcome to the Microsoft community!

I have realized that your issues.

Before that, I would like to ask you for some information to better address your question.

This is because the stability and compatibility of the system after the update is directly linked to the performance of the computer.

I have had laptops purchased in 2019 that would also lag exceptionally after upgrading to Windows 11 24H2.

So I would like to confirm what are the CPU and RAM specs of your current computer?

In addition, since 24H2 is a newly introduced system, it is inevitable that it still requires constant updating and maintenance.

In your case, there are many users who have reported this problem, and the best way to deal with it is to roll back the version and postpone the update!

Here's a Chinese thread with the same problem as yours, you can translate it for reference

Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your understanding and patience and I look forward to hearing from you.
