How to crossplay grounded?

I've just bought Grounded (PS5) and I'm trying to play with a couple of friends (Pc), but we can't seem to get the friend requests to work, as we've all sent friend requests to each other but don't know how to accept them, no matter how many we send to each other we never seem to get a notification or even a place to accept them, I have tried accepting them through the xbox website on my laptop, and my friend has tried accepting mine from their xbox account on their PC, but we still aren't seeing anything change in the games friend list menu

    I understand you’re experiencing issues trying to play Grounded cross-platform with your friends on PC after purchasing the game on PlayStation 5. In order to enable cross-platform multiplayer—connecting players across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, or Microsoft Store)—all players must be connected through a Microsoft account (Xbox Live account).

    You mentioned trying to accept requests through the Xbox website and the Xbox app, which is definitely the right direction! Please ensure the following:

    All participants must enable crossplay and sign in with their own Microsoft account. Then, when you go to invite them, choose “Add cross-platform friend”, and enter their Microsoft account username (Gamertag). If both parties do this, the friend connection should sync automatically, and you’ll be able to invite each other.

    Please walk through these steps carefully with your friends:

    1. Ensure all players are correctly signed into and linked to their Microsoft accounts—this is the foundation of cross-platform play.
    2. Use the Xbox platform to add each other as friends.
    3. Sync the in-game friend lists and initiate the invite from within the game.
