No Achievements Unlocking on Xbox Minecraft — Java

Hi, I recently bought Minecraft and have played for a few hours enough to try things like opening the inventory and doing other basic stuff.

I’m pretty sure I’ve done some of the things that are supposed to unlock achievements, but nothing appears.

I only have one unlocked achievement, "Getting Wood", dated October 1st, 2024, and another one showing 6% progress — but easy achievements like smelting iron or opening the inventory aren’t showing up.

Is this normal? Do achievements only work on the Bedrock Edition?

    Thank you for replying.

I'm playing on PC, using the Java Edition of Minecraft. I noticed this because when I play the Minecraft Bedrock my Xbox account shows it as "Minecraft for Windows." But when I play the Java Edition, it simply shows up as "Minecraft."

I understand that the achievement system doesn't sync between Minecraft and Xbox, but I still have a question:

How is it possible that I have two achievements?

    Hello, Litzy Skibidi

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the achievement unlocking issue you encountered in the Xbox version of Minecraft, here are some key points to help you understand:

    Minecraft version differences:

Java Edition: This version is primarily designed for PC, Mac, and Linux computers. It has its own system called “Progress,” which is internal to the game and does not sync with the Xbox Live achievement system.

Bedrock Edition: This version is designed for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, mobile devices, and Windows 10/11. This version uses the “Achievements” system, which syncs with your Xbox Live profile.

When you play Minecraft on an Xbox console, you are almost certainly playing the Bedrock Edition. Xbox consoles do not support running the Java Edition of Minecraft directly.

The “Getting Wood” achievement you mentioned, along with achievements showing 6% progress, are features of Xbox Live achievements and belong to the Bedrock Edition. The “Progress” system in the Java Edition does not display this way.

Therefore, based on your description, you are likely playing the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft on an Xbox.

If you are indeed playing the Bedrock Edition and achievements are not unlocking as expected, there are several common reasons:

World settings: If you selected “Creative Mode” when creating the world, or if you ever enabled the “Cheats” option after creating the world (even if you later disabled it), all achievements for that world will be disabled. You need to be in a survival world that has never had cheats enabled or entered Creative Mode to unlock achievements.

Network connection: You need to be connected to Xbox Live/Microsoft servers to properly register and sync achievements.

Custom maps or servers: Some downloaded custom maps or joined servers may disable achievements.

Game cache/sync issues: Occasionally, the game or Xbox Live services may experience temporary sync issues.

Regarding the date “October 1st, 2024”:

This date is in the future, which is highly unusual. It may be a display error, a synchronization issue, or a placeholder.

    Recommendations:

    1. Confirm the version you are playing: In the Minecraft main menu interface, it typically displays whether you are running “Minecraft for Windows” (Bedrock Edition), “Minecraft for Xbox One” (Bedrock Edition), or “Minecraft: Java Edition.” If you are on an Xbox, it is almost certainly the Bedrock Edition.

    Check your world settings:

    1. Enter the settings of the world you are playing.

Ensure the “Cheats” option is turned off and has never been enabled.

Ensure the world was not created in Creative mode.

    1. Try a new world: Create a brand-new Survival mode world (ensure cheats are disabled during creation), then attempt basic actions like opening the inventory or chopping a tree to see if achievements unlock normally. This will help determine if the issue is specific to the world or a broader problem.
