I'm trying to migrate on premise SP2013 to sharepoint online. Site lists and libraries structure is migrated, but no files are there. In the logs i found:

"Skip migrate the content of the list because the required field(s) Restricted,Originator Id,Access Policy cannot be created or updated"

There aren't such columns in the source list. I've admin rights on both sides.

Can anybody help?

Hello Jiří Pokluda,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing that detailed error log. That's very helpful.

That error message you're seeing can related to a security feature called Information Rights Management (IRM). Those fields it mentions (Restricted, Originator Id, etc...) aren't regular columns, they're hidden system fields that get added when IRM is turned on to protect files.

The problem is that your source library has this feature enabled, but when the migration tool tries to apply the same protection in SharePoint Online, it fails, most likely because the modern IRM service isn't yet configured in your Microsoft 365 account.

There are a couple of ways to approach this:

Option 1: Disable IRM on the Source Library

  • Navigate to the source library in your on-premise SharePoint 2013 site.
  • Go to Library Settings in the ribbon.
  • Click on Information Rights Management
  • In the IRM settings page, deselect the checkbox that says "Restrict permission to documents in this library on download" and save the changes.
  • Go back to the SharePoint Migration Tool and re-run the migration task for this specific library. The files should now migrate successfully.

Note: The following reference link is titled "Apply" IRM, but you can follow the same steps to access the settings page and deselect the checkbox to disable the feature: Apply Information Rights Management to a list or library

Option 2: Configure IRM in Microsoft 365

If maintaining the exact IRM policies during migration is a requirement, the long-term solution is to have your Microsoft 365 administrator enable and configure the service in the cloud. This typically involves setting up Azure Information Protection (AIP**)** from the M365 Admin Center. This is a more involved process but ensures security settings are preserved.

Here is a detailed guide for you: Set up Information Rights Management (IRM) in SharePoint admin center

I hope this helps clarify the process! If you have any further questions or updates, please let me know and I’ll be happy to assist further.
