Phantom phone calls made every 27 minutes

New Teams Voice+ company here.

We went live last week on Teams Voice+, and aside from a few bugs here and there the process has been mostly smooth.

Last night, Teams started making phone calls every 27 minutes from our company's toll free number to an non-specified list of users (my guess is it is calling every number that called into the toll-free line the day prior). Teams has continued to make this phantom call every 27 minutes non-stop from this point. What I mean by phantom call is that when a user goes to pickup one of these calls, there is no one on the other line, nor is there any static or background noise.

Anybody have any ideas on this? What Microsoft process/processes runs every 27 minutes?

    Hello Grey,

    Apologies for the delayed response.

Glad to hear that this has been resolved.

Regarding your query, after consultations, been advised that the option to restart users' Teams via a group policy is currently not available. In this case, the option to force restart the app by rebooting the computers on a scheduled PC restart via GPO could be the only work around.

Apologies that I could not be of much help on this one. Will surely update this thread in case I find more info on this.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

    Sincerely,

    Ashraf,

No these calls do not show up in call history. It is difficult to answer your second question, as the calls are being generated from our Toll-Free number which is a resource account and as such is not logged into a device anywhere.

However, we push out updates on Thursday nights, which restarts all of our users computers and results in a forced restart to the Teams app for all of our users. This resulted in the phantom calls issue resolving itself last night.

I believe my case is related to the one in the link below, so my question at this point would be is there a way to push out a global policy whereby all the users in my organization have there Teams apps restarted every night?

    Hello Grey ,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, I understand that you have a concern with "Phantom phone calls made every 27 minutes"

    In order to narrow down the issue, please let us know of the following;

    • Do these calls show up in the call history?
    • Does this issue persist after re-installing the teams app?

Also, since this request might require sensitive information like the account details or phone number making these calls and Teams/device log files to further analyze how these calls are initiated, I would recommend To contact our technical support by opening a service request from Office 365 admin portal. Here is reference article for any O365 admin: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

The Tech support team over there has higher permissions than us, they can remotely connect with you and analyze logs at the time stamp when teams makes this call. They can also involve more resources to investigate the call flow from back end. I believe this would be the most efficient way in handling this case for you.

Your patience and cooperation are much appreciated.

    Sincerely,
