The Teams web application always works on VPN and off VPN.

The Teams client desktop application works when not on the VPN.

The Teams client desktop application never works when on the VPN.

Teams client fails with There was a problem reaching this app.

I don't understand why the client doesn't work and the web does.

Les.

Hello! My name is Nazia, and I am an Independent Advisor as well as Microsoft user like you. I will try my best to help you with an appropriate answer .

Teams does works without problems without a VPN connection and it also works without problems when you have the VPN working with the split tunnel configuration. Everything is working properly with the entire Office365 suite using the VPN. Skype for business was working perfectly with the VPN. Even Teams does works with the VPN... kind off... the specific problem is with voice, conferences/meetings and file transfers.

The Microsoft support engineer has just sent me an email confirming that Microsoft is not recommending using Teams with VPN. Here is also an official document from Microsoft related to the VPN issue. There is a section that talks about the issues with VPN:

    https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2250865-...

(scroll down in the page shared above and then see the details regarding Configure split-tunnel VPN)

Kindly let me know if this doesn't answer or if you need further assistance.

    Regards,

    Nazia

    Dear Les,

    Good day!

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, I understand that the situation happens when the VPN is ON.

Even though it is not reproduced when using teams on the web, first you need to check if multiple users in your organization are facing the same situation.

Adding to that please double the situation when clearing your teams cache following the steps on this article

Please let me know how it goes for further assistance.

We look forward to your reply for further assistance. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely.
