Like my question says, can anyone explain the difference between the Virtual Appointments app in Teams and the Bookings app in Teams? It looks like they have a lot of overlap with very little differences.

So there are two apps that are virtually identical but the licensing is confusing so you can't figure out which one you need or already have? And to add to the confusion there was talk about Bookings being eliminated but then Microsoft decided to keep it. However, the mobile apps have been removed from android and iOS.

"Ultimately, the best app for you will depend on your specific needs and requirements. If you need a simple way to schedule and manage virtual appointments, the Virtual Appointments app is a good option. If you need a more robust solution with additional features, the Bookings app is a better choice."

Except...if you get the Teams premium license then the virtual appointment app has advanced features like:

    • SMS notifications
    • Custom waiting room
    • A queue of scheduled and on-demand appointments
    • Analytics

Anyone else as confused as I am?

Hello Travis, this is Suganya. I'm happy to assist you.

The Virtual Appointments app and the Bookings app are both Microsoft Teams apps that allow you to schedule and manage virtual appointments. However, there are some key differences between the two apps.

The Virtual Appointments app is a more lightweight app that is designed for businesses that need a simple way to schedule and manage virtual appointments. The app is integrated with Microsoft Teams, so you can use it to schedule appointments, send reminders, and join meetings from within Teams. The Virtual Appointments app is available to all Microsoft 365 users, regardless of their license level.

The Bookings app is a more feature-rich app that is designed for businesses that need a more robust solution for scheduling and managing virtual appointments. The app includes features such as:

    1. The ability to create multiple calendars for different departments or staff members
    2. The ability to send appointment reminders via email or SMS
    3. The ability to create custom waiting rooms for your appointments
    4. The ability to track appointment analytics

Bookings app is available to users with a Microsoft 365 Business Premium or Enterprise E1, E3, E5, E3v2, E5v2, or E5+ subscription.

Ultimately, the best app for you will depend on your specific needs and requirements. If you need a simple way to schedule and manage virtual appointments, the Virtual Appointments app is a good option. If you need a more robust solution with additional features, the Bookings app is a better choice.

I hope this helps you to resolve the issue. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you!

    Regards

    Suganya

    Hi Suganaya,

Are you sure that your capability descriptions aren't flipped? This article makes it sound like Virtual Appointments is the more robust option: Virtual Appointments with Microsoft Teams - Microsoft 365 for frontline workers | Microsoft Learn

I agree with you--Virtural Appointments is the more robust appointment app vs. Bookings. However, to use all the features of Virtual Appointments you need a Teams Premium subscription.

Virtual Appointments use the same config and data that Bookings.

Booking = A web app to manage scheduling and appointment with customer. It can presents services to customer and the corresponding staff members availability.

Booking Teams App = The Booking web interface loaded in Teams.

Virtual Appointments Teams App = An interface on top of Bookings geared toward virtual (video/audio teams meeting) appointments
