    Hello Robert G,

    Thank you for the update.

You need to meet the following 3 prerequisites to see the Desktop app from the File open preference dropdown menu:

1: You must be using the Teams desktop app for Windows or Mac 2: You download and install the corresponding Office desktop apps (Microsoft Office 2016 or a later version) from the Microsoft 365 portal. 3: You have an Office 365 E3 or E5 license.

I guess that one of the prerequisites isn't met.

See the below link for more details.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards, Oluwatosin.

So, this functionality we used to have with even Office Standard, is now locked behind a paywall for some reason and only available for the much higher cost of an E3 or E5 license? I know you are an independent advisor and it's unlikely Microsoft will ever give an official response to this but it's really sad. It's a basic feature.

We have also Business Premium and I'll expect a simple solution from Microsoft!

These products are becoming more and more complex and standard functions are disappearing.
The normal user does not want to work in web applications, if the Internet is not available the PCs are slow and difficult to use!

    Hello Robert G,

To set the default behavior for opening files in the Teams app instead of the browser, follow these steps:

Launch the Microsoft Teams desktop or web app. Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner to open the menu. Then, select "Settings" from the dropdown menu. In the Settings menu, In the left sidebar scroll down to the Files and Links section. From the dropdown menu, select your preferred default app for opening Office files: The Teams option opens files within Teams.

Once you've made the adjustment, ensure to save your changes. Close and reopen Teams to apply the new setting.

    See the attached screenshot.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards, Oluwatosin.
