Default paste Keep Source Formatting or setting default

Hi,

This is basically for all MS products, but now specifically for Outlook for Mac. Please make the paste behavior so that either the default can be set in settings to Keep Source or Match Destination Formatting. Since the last update it defaults to Keep Source Formatting, but I use Typinator a lot and now I cannot get the formatting I have set there. Before it always worked well, but since the last update the paste always defaults to Match Destination. And when I then choose Keep Source it only copies something that was in the memory before. This is how Typinator works. It has worked for me for more than 15 years this way without problems (before with TextExpander as well), just after this latest update it defaults to Keep Source Formatting.

On macOS you would not need this kind of formatting paste menu, because default should be keep source and without formatting would be cmd+shift+v. Just use that, like all other apps.

So please make it either a setting to default to either formatting or use the macOS way.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Roger

You do know that it hasn't always been this way, right? It was working fine under 16.87.2 and before. It's just the new versions that broke this. So why are we having to leave feedback when it's obviously a bug that was introduced into Outlook?

I have this exact same issue and opened a ticket with Microsoft via the Help menu. I ended up downgrading to 16.87.2 and I turned off Microsoft Update by removing it. I paste a lot from Numbers and I was losing all of my formatting. I'm hoping they fix this soon.

    Hi Feroz,

Thank you. I added it there. I hope in the right one, because there are too many options (tip, use CoPilot to add it in the right forum/category).

    Best regards,

    Roger

    Hello rogervane,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. I apologize for any inconvenience you’re experiencing with Outlook for Mac.

I understand you’re experiencing issues with the default paste behavior in Outlook for Mac after a recent update. After reviewing the available options, I regret to inform you that currently, there aren't any feasible built-in options to change the default paste behavior to “Keep Source Formatting” or "Match Destination Formatting."

I also believe that some specific configuration or settings options should be developed under the Outlook application. I understand your concerns about how it can help you be more productive in your busy daily work schedule. However, since it's related to Microsoft 365 product services and features under product design, I believe that the related product team can develop some convenient configurations based on customer requests.

Therefore, Microsoft recommend submitting feedback by going in Ideas · Community (microsoft.com)

This community team and the Microsoft product development team are separate. Therefore, for features suggestions or design queries, users need to submit feedback to the Microsoft product design team from their side. Once a user sends feedback through the above means, it will sent directly to Microsoft and routed to the relevant product team so that can review it to do specific development in different OS devices.

To see more details on how to submit feedback, see this article Learn how to provide feedback to Microsoft - Microsoft 365 adminsMicrosoft Learning.

I hope I have provided you with all the required process information for this current scenario. If you need any further information from our side, please feel free to do so.

I would really appreciate your precious time. Thank you again for your kind cooperation.

    Have a good day.

Sincerely Feroz Mahmud | Microsoft Community Moderator
