    Dear GogoLee0808

Good day to you and thank you for your post in the Microsoft community.

I am writing to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.

From the exchange online side this is the suggested method to get the read receipts. If you are using any automation or Application, that's perhaps requires further expert opinion from the Tech support team. They should collect more advanced log information from Office 365 Global Admin personnel through a remote session to diagnose the current scenario. If needed, a front-line technical support engineer can also have a specific support team investigate and provide you required information.

Contact our support by raising a support ticket with your global administrator account, - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn (online option).

Or if you're not the administrator, you must contact your Office 365 global administrator to open the Get support service request.

Since we belong to Microsoft Community site, our forum is available for public. Also, we have limited resource and privilege to examine account related scenarios.

If there is anything we can do to assist you or if you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are here to support you in any way we can.

Your kind understanding is greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

I also tried another solution - include an image in the end of the generated email, so when user opens the email, it will fetch the image and carry some parameters for us to track. Below is email content for example:

    <body>     <img src="https://x****/api/img?test=true" width="10" height="10"/>     img <img src="https://secureir.ebaystatic.com/cr/mscdn/bbf573b0fdc573ef91d2141e95551b32/logo_teal_T4.png" width="10" height="10" /> logo </body>

If i open that email in Macbook Outlook client, i could only see the second image displays successfully. If i open that email in Outlook web client, i could see both the images displays successfully.

Do you know why they behave differently? thank you so much for your help.

Thank you Shajia, Is it the only way to get the information that someone opened the email? The email which we sent to our colleagues is actually generated by application, we will put the content as html format and send to them.

Setting the read receipts seems is not doable in application side when send the email, am i right?

    Dear GogoLee0808

Good morning to you and thank you for your post in the Microsoft community.

I read your thread and get some background information of your scenario. According to your description, your concern that you would like to check who open the emails, is there any rest API i could use or some other ways to get the tracking data? Well, let me help you to achieve this.

You can use the feature Read receipts, if you are using outlook to send those emails.

A read receipt confirms that your message was opened.

In Outlook, the message recipient can decline to send read receipts. There are other scenarios where read receipts are not sent, such as if the recipient's email program doesn’t support read receipts. There is no way to force a recipient to send a read receipt.

How to request a read receipt and/or delivery receipt in classic Outlook

    1. On the File menu, select OptionsMail.
    2. Under Tracking, select the Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's e-mail server or Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message check box.

    Image

    1. Click OK to apply your changes.

You can also use New outlook, outlook on the web as well, please follow the link for details: Add and request read receipts and delivery notifications in Outlook - Microsoft Support

If there is any update or I misunderstand you, please feel free to let me know. I will continue to assist you. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,
