How to set New Outlook to become the default email program for the other MS Apps?

I started using MS new outlook a couple weeks ago. One thing troubles me the most is that whenever I want to send my working document (e.g., word, ppt or excel), I can't use the small email icon on the MS Apps. That Icon will take me directly to the old outlook, which i don't open anymore. :) It creates quite a bit of confusion for me. any help is appreciated.

    Hello Sir/Madam,

    Good day!

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you're using the new Outlook and want to set it as the default email program for other Microsoft apps like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Currently, when you try to send a document from these apps, it opens the old Outlook instead of the new one.

I have replicated your issue from my end and this is happening because the default email client is still set to the old Outlook.

Kindly follow this guide to make New Outlook set to default.

    1. Open Default Apps Settings:
    • Click on the Start button and select Settings (the gear icon).
    • Go to Apps from the left sidebar.
    • Select Default apps from the list.

    • Scroll down to the Mail section.

    • Click on the current default email app (which might be set to the classic version of Outlook).
    • Choose New Outlookfrom the list of available apps.

    1. Set Default Calendar and Contacts App (if applicable):
    2. Scroll further down to the Calendar section

    .

    • Click on the current default apps and choose New Outlookfrom the list.

Note*: Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.*

Upon further investigation, there might be some instances where you might set it to default but it will still use Old Outlook. This is because when you install it as an M365 suite, M365 might be taking priority over New Outlook due to its integration with the Office suite. In other instances. This issue might also occur because the New Outlook does not fully support all the MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) features that other Microsoft apps use to send emails. As a result, when you try to share a document, the system defaults to the M365 Outlook, which has full MAPI support.

In instances like that, I will advise you kindly open a service request with our Technical Support Team- Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn. Their technical experts have access to advanced tools and resources, enabling them to thoroughly investigate the issue, collect logs, and perform a remote session to configure your setup. This approach will provide the most effective solution. Rest assured, I'll closely monitor the progress and follow up to ensure a permanent resolution once you've opened the service request.

Kindly share the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, so our support team can build on your efforts and conduct a more in-depth investigation.
