New Outlook crashes every time it is opened

I open outlook. It freezes everything but can still scroll through inbox, just unable to click on anything. Finally it said it had crashed and closed. Re opened and it worked but right clicked on Calender to open in a new window and same behaivour. Just freezes for 2-3 mins then eventually sends popup.

Tried reverting to old (working) outlook several times over the past year but keep getting bumped back to new (broken) outlook.

It seems like the solution is for windows to just let us use the old (working) outlook instead of forcing us into new (broken) software. But as Windows have not given us this option any longer and instead want us to work with the new (broken) software I am wondering what I need to do to get it to work.

New Outlook reminds us time and time again it is not yet ready for prime time. I'm having the same issue where outlook runs for a moment or two, starts to use an incredible amount of memory, and then stops responding.

I have a few questions about Eleni Constantinou's post:

    1. You said to ensure Outlook is updated. How do you propose we update New Outlook? New Outlook is a store app and as such auto-updates
    2. You said to run outlook in safe mode. If we follow your instructions, using the command "outlook /safe" it will run the old version of Outlook. How does running the old version of Outlook help with a problem in the new version?
    3. In point #3 you said to disable add-ins using "file --> options --> etc". There is no "file" option in New Outlook. To the best of my knowledge, New Outlook doesn't support add-ins. You can add web apps, but this is an entirely different thing.

    Thanks,

    ... Brad

I dont think any of these are the issue because Its fully updated, I dont run any add ins and the software does work eventually. I just think microsoft products are terrible and every new version is getting worse than the previous one. I dont understand why they build new software that looks worse and doesnt function as cleanly as the software we were already using. I assume its because the new version harvests more data.

I have uncovered an issue and solution at the office. if a wired connection is active at the same time as the Wifi connection Outlook and Teams will crash causing other apps to show symptom. the solution is to disable wifi and reboot (or maybe unplug the hard wire, but i choose the former).
I want to take this opportunity to express my discontent for having 4 different Teams environments and 2 different Outlook (and for some reason Mail still exists) that each are trying to get you to use the other. i don't know how or Why Teams and Outlook are tied to each other, but it causes a lot of conflicts. this should be clear as day to MSFT that the solution is not to have 6 "almost" functioning apps, but to have 1 that actually works.

    Hello Eleni,

unfortuntely this is NOT a unique nature. I have faced this issue as long as Microsoft has provided their new version, and thus always successfully (and happily) declined the change to the new version. Therefore, I really do not understand why Microsoft cannot just re-open the choice that affected users can stay on the old version and smoothly continue to do their work ...?

I really wish Microsoft would consider this option, until this not at all unique issue is resolved.

    Best regards

    Raphael

    Hello Imogen Heard,

    Good day!

Thank you for reaching out about the issues you're experiencing with the New Outlook version.

I understand how frustrating it can be when software doesn't work as expected. To help troubleshoot, could you please answer the following questions:

    • Are you using any Outlook add-ins?
    • Have you tried resetting Outlook's navigation pane?
    • Are you using any third-party calendar apps or integrations?
    • Have you checked for conflicts with other Microsoft Office applications?
    • Are you running the latest version of New Outlook?

Let’s try to narrow down the problem and find a solution. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that both Windows and Outlook are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes, patches are released to fix known issues.
    2. Run Outlook in Safe Mode: This can help determine if the issue is caused by an add-in. You can do this by holding the Ctrl key while opening Outlook or typing Outlook /safe in the Run dialog (Windows key + R).
    3. Disable Add-ins: If Outlook runs fine in safe mode, try disabling add-ins to identify if any are causing the problem. Go to File > Options > Add-Ins, select COM Add-ins, and then Go. Clear all the checkboxes and restart Outlook.
    4. Repair Office: You can repair the Office installation, which can fix issues with Outlook. Go to the Control Panel, find Programs and Features, select Microsoft Office, and click Change > Online Repair.
    5. Create a New Outlook Profile: Sometimes, the profile can become corrupted. Creating a new one might resolve the issue. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Mail > Show Profiles > Add, and follow the prompts to create a new profile.

If these steps do not resolve the issue,I strongly recommend that you open a service request, the technical support there has more resources and permission than we do here in the community and then can collect the logs to investigate this issue from the back end and they can also go on remote session with you to navigate your set up Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn. This will be the most efficient way of handling your issue. Be sure to mention the troubleshooting steps you’ve already attempted.

Remember to back up your Outlook data regularly, especially before making any changes to the software or profiles.

I hope this helps, and you’re able to get Outlook running smoothly again soon! I will be looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Eleni | Microsoft Community Moderator
