Disabling the screen lock after a period of user inactivity

Hi

How can you turn off the screen lock when the user is inactive on the computer for a while? During this time, nothing is done on the computer and the screen lock is activated.

It is Windows 10 - 21H2

Is it possible to disable the screen lock for all users who log in to the selected computer?

The computer is in the domain. Managed by GPO

Go to Start Menu / Settings / Accounts / Sign-in Options.

On this screen, Look for "Require sign-in" and set it to "Never".

If you also want to remove the need to enter a password when booting: Go to Start Menu and type "netplwiz".

On this screen, uncheck this option: "Users must enter a user name to use this computer".

Thank you for your question and reaching out. I can understand you are having query related to Screen lock.

1 .Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization and select Do not display the lock screen.

User Configuration-->Administrative Templates--> Control Panel--> "Personalization" folder.

-->Double-click the "Password protect the screen saver" setting --> Choose the "Disabled" option, click "Apply" and click "OK." The lock screen feature will be disabled.

Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Interactive Logon : Machine inactivity limit -> Put 0 seconds

I could not follow your instructions as I do not get the options you lay out above. I have Windows 10 Pro, Version 22H2.

I work from home and do not have prying eyes looking over my shoulder and thus do not need the auto screen lock feature that Micosoft shoves down my throat. I just want to turn it off!

I cannot get beyong the opening picture screen with date and time. Keep getting message to insert challeng question, followed by request for pin which is always wrong. No opportunity to follow instructions because the keyboard disappears returning to the same instructions

Just to note, for step 3. Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Interactive Logon : Machine inactivity limit -> Put 0 seconds

You need to launch local security policy by pressing the window key + R on your keyboard to get the run command window, and then typing secpol.msc and pressing enter.

For steps 1 and 2 launch local group policy editor by doing the same but running gpedit.msc

Time and date, the network signal, and the battery symbol are the only characters that appear on my screen

And just when i click any of those on the screen then all disappear leaving only the wallpaper photo

The setting causing you grief I believe is under sign in options. On our systems the admin has set the range from one minute to 15 minutes that we can select before the screen is locked. You would be looking for a setting of 30 minutes or greater to reduce the number of times you have to login on your system. You may have to speak to your desktop administrator to open the options up. Do a search for sign in options and see what your option are for time limits.

Hi Raymond,

The settings you are talking about are configured on the Group Policy. I have already changed all the policies applied to the computer, but it didn't solve the issue.

For now, I'm using this software [https://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/caffeine/ to simulate someone using the computer all the time, and now my automated tests run without a problem.

It's a palliative solution, but it's working.

Automatic Locking issue in Window 10

Power Sleep => Advanced Setting =>Change Power setting=> PCI Express=>Link state Power Management=>Setting set Off

Turn off hard disk after : 99999 minutes

Restart system Once

You'll have to do so throught the Control Panel interface, not throught the Windows 10 OS view.

Christopher Nolan thanks for showing your screenshot, you are incorrect as I can clearly see on the right hand side "additional power settings" underneath "Related Settings" heading (this is highlighted with a red box in the original screenshot)

I wouldn't recommend following these steps from GouriSankar Sahu though as the hard drive sleep and pci link state power management are totally unrelated to screen timeouts or displaying the lock screen.

This answer has nothing to do with the lock screen, it just avoids the computer to go to sleep, which can have other consequences.
