Unable to view my latest reply in an email chain?

I've just switched over to the new Outlook (a requirement for me to be able to test the Copilot functionality).

In the old Outlook, if you replied in an email chain you would see your response at the top of the chain and could read it back to yourself. In the new Outlook, after replying to an email all you see at the top is "You replied on DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM". There is no option to view your own message.

Is there a way to rectify this? It feels a bit silly that you can't easily view what you had said in response to someone. Navigating to my "Sent Items" list is also highly inconvenient if I'm already looking at my main inbox.

I agree that this is a valuable feature of old Outlook to be able to find related message. This needs to be made easier. As someone who gets and sends hundreds of emails daily it is too cumbersome to find an email from even a week ago by searching my sent email for the particular date.

I also absolutely hate the CONVERSATIONS feature that is also the google way of doing things. I can never find that way what I want or see what I need to see as it comes in.

For similar reason the toggling back and forth to conversations would take way to long as I would need to do this multiple times a day just to find emails.

This old feature needs to come back.

This is not a work-around, since it doesn't work.

Why is this no longer a feature, every other email service or messaging app put the latest reply FIRST, no matter if it is yours or not.

    This needs to be fixed.

Same problem here. Funny thing is, the iPad app works fine and shows the full thread of the conversation, even your most recent reply.

On Windows, you can open the conversation in a separate window and it will show your prior replies. Your most recent reply will not show up until someone else has replied.

What a load of ****! Also, it seems the support staff doesn't use Outlook, otherwise they would be just as frustrated as we are. FIX IT NOW MICROSOFT!

    Hi Toby McDaid,

    Good day.

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist.

I understand your frustration with the new Outlook’s behavior. In the old Outlook, it was indeed convenient to see your own response at the top of an email chain. Unfortunately, the new Outlook doesn’t display your reply in the same way.

However, there are a couple of workarounds you can try:

    Conversation View:

    • From any mail folder (such as your inbox), select View > Show as Conversations to toggle the Conversation view on or off.
    • Conversations that include multiple messages are identified in the message list by a triangular expand/collapse icon.
    • While this won’t show your reply at the top, it groups related emails together, making it easier to follow the conversation.

Sort Conversations by Most Recent Email:

    • Within a conversation, you can sort it so that the most recent email appears in the condensed view.
    • This way, regardless of whether the email was received or sent, the latest message will be visible.

Remember that adjusting these settings might not exactly replicate the old behavior, but they can help you manage your conversations more effectively in the new Outlook.

If you’re still having trouble, you can try contactingGet support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn the support team will have access to assist remotely and collect logs to investigate the issue from the back end.

I hope this helps let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards

It seems they have done some work to help this issue now, so that even later mails may still appear in the conversation. However, it feels more like adding a patch for removing the most useful feature in Outlook. In addition to this, all the e-mails in the conversation are minimized, so how I will actually be able to find anything in the conversation is another question.

Further, I have no idea how they have not yet managed to implement a simple, accessible search function for a conversation.
