Hello Team,

I hope you're doing well,

I have a little question here,

I have a vm member of an Azure backup default policy, and i want to move it to a new Azure backup enhanced policy (So i can do hourly backups).

When i tried to do so, it failed because Azure doesn't support migration from default to enhanced.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-vms-enhanced-policy

So if i understand if i want to do so i would need to :

-Stop backup for the machine that is using the default policy
-Delete the machine and it's backup from Azure Backup
-Once data is deleted (After 14 days) Re-add the VM and then add the VM to the enhanced policy

Is there a better way to do achive this goal?
Because in this scenario, i won't have the backup of the machine for 14 days
Thanks

    Thank you for your clarification.

You must delete the backup items related to that VM.

First, you must disable the Soft Delete

In your Backup Item, proceed to stop the backup

You must choose Delete backup data

After that, you will be able to add the new backup policy in your VM and avoid this scenario

i won't have the backup of the machine for 14 days

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @Mohamed jihad bayali

Thank you for asking this question on the **Microsoft Q&A Platform. **

Chech this documentation to Switch backup policy

    1. Sign in to the Azure portal. Open the vault dashboard.
    2. On the Backup Items tile, select Azure Virtual Machine.

    3. On the Backup Items pane, you can view the list of protected VMs and last backup status with latest restore points time.

    4. From the vault item's dashboard, you can select a backup policy.

To switch policies, select a different policy and then select Save. The new policy is immediately applied to the vault.
