Authenicator App only providing 8 digit codes - that don't work

Why is the MS authenticator app only giving me 8-digit codes when I am always asked for a 6-digit code? This has been a big problem for a couple of years now and there is still no fix. I have tried downloading the app again, switching on and off the 2-step verification, many times. It is very frustrating.

I believe you are seeing the 8-digit code on your Authenticator App because the Passwordless signing is enabled for your Microsoft account (personal Microsoft account)
