Hi all,

We have 3 TB of data that we need to archive and to be able to access if needed. Many time that is 1 time per 2 months but we need to be able to access it without raising a support ticket.

We checked the azure storage and there are 3 tiers: Hot, Cold and Archive. What is the better option Cold or archive or maybe you guys have better option? Sharepoint is not the option coz 1 TB of extra storage costs almost 200$ a month.

Can someone tell us what would be the price for archive / cold storage for 3 TB?

    Hi Deni,

The Archive tier is an offline tier for storing blob data that is rarely accessed. The Archive tier offers the lowest storage costs, but higher data retrieval costs and latency compared to the online tiers (Hot and Cool). Data must remain in the Archive tier for at least 180 days or be subject to an early deletion charge.

So you can explore the Archive Tier - A blob in the Archive tier is offline. That is, it cannot be read or modified until it is rehydrated. The rehydration process can take several hours and has associated costs. Before you move data to the Archive tier, consider whether taking blob data offline may affect your workflows. Follow this link for more details on this and pricing too.archive-blob

    Hope this helps.

@Deni Garo Please find the costs for cool tier here- https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/storage/blobs/

Azure Files and Cool storage are for different purposes. If you simply want to mount and access your files from your system, Azure Files will be your best fit. Azure Blob Storage is a highly scalable object store for storing massive amounts of unstructured data. Cool storage in Azure Blob storage is for infrequently access data. Please refer this for more details- https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/access-tiers-overview

If you are looking for Archive kind of option, you can opt for either of these two options in Blob Storage:
Archive tier- An offline tier optimized for storing data that is rarely accessed, and that has flexible latency requirements, on the order of hours. Data in the archive tier should be stored for a minimum of 180 days.
    or
Cool tier- An online tier optimized for storing data that is infrequently accessed or modified. Data in the cool tier should be stored for a minimum of 30 days. The cool tier has lower storage costs and higher access costs compared to the hot tier.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions and we will be glad to assist you further. Thank you!
