FAST Search doesn't work with certain search terms (on-premise Exchange 2019 CU11)

I'm seeing a curious problem with FAST search in Outlook (2019 and 2016) with an on-premise 2019 Exchange server (CU11):

A user was searching for an E-Mail by someone named Carmen and received the error: "We're having trouble fetching results from the server... > Let's look on your computer instead"

Unbenannt

FAST Search generally works though, only variations of this search term result in the above error message. The user tested a bit, these are the results:

  • ca – worked
  • car - worked
  • carm – didn't work
  • carme – didn't work
  • carmen – didn't work
  • carmen. – didn't work
  • carmen.g – didn't work
  • carmen.gy – worked
  • carmen.gyo - worked

When the user searches via OWA, it all works fine. When I search for the same word in my Outlook, it also works fine (although I obviously don't have the same e-mails in my mailbox).

Has anyone else encountered this?

    Glad to see that your issue had already been resolved in the Answers community and thanks for sharing the solution so that others experiencing the same thing can easily reference this!     Issue Symptom:

    Outlook (2019 and 2016) with an on-premise 2019 Exchange server (CU11)

    A user was searching for an E-Mail by someone named Carmen and received the error: *"We're having trouble fetching results from the server... > Let's look on your computer instead"
    No issue in OWA. Only affects the particular user.

    Resolution:

    Selecting "All Outlook items" instead of "Current Mailbox" fixes the problem.
