Hello,
I am unable to create a Cloud sync configuration.
I've setup all the prerequisites, but for some reason when I try to create a new Cloud sync configuration I am prompted with error: "An unexpected error occurred. Please refresh and try again."
I've tried reinstalling the ad connect tool, and a bunch of other things, but nothing seems to make it work.
The on-premises agent, is online and active.
AD DS Services, online and healthy. Sync services are also healthy.
I've tried all I could find, but nothing fixed the issue, if you know the answer please help me.

I got it the first time working but deleted the config to start from scratch (ie document with screenshots). When I deleted the config I could choose again to create a new config but alas; "An unexpected error occurred. Please refresh and try again." is now persisting unfortunately.

Ben Owen 36 Reputation points2023-06-21T14:33:13.04+00:00 I'm seeing the identical issue, I installed a cloudsync server, got it connecting, and was about to set up the sync config, but then wanted to back out and pick another forest to do the tests from. Uninstalled the agent and the health went to 'inactive', but I could see no way to remove the server from Azure. Asked MS how to delete it and was told:
After 10 days, a connector becomes "soft deleted" in the system. At this point, the data for that connector is still in the database, but it is not loaded. The agent is not displayed in the UI anymore.
With this in mind, not wanting to wait 10 days, I re-installed the agent on the original server. It connected, and the status flipped to 'active' but now I cannot set up the sync config. The same error appears 'Cloud sync configuration error: An unexpected error occurred. Please refresh and try again'
I also as a test registered a machine in another forest, again it connects and is 'active', but I cannot set up any sync rules.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

2023-06-27T15:38:36.7633333+00:00 Got to the bottom of this one eventually. I still can't explain why it worked the first time and then not on the re-install, but it was down to our conditional access policies requiring MFA on all accounts. An exception was needed to be put in place for the account ' ADToAADSyncServiceAccount' (which is created when you first register an AAD cloud sync server). Once that was in place I could set up policies as expected.

2023-06-27T15:44:58.09+00:00 Forgot to comment back but I also solved it by changing Conditional Access, to allow that specific account. Should have known but alas, thinks happen :).

Dan Wheeler 0 Reputation points2024-10-15T21:50:03.4866667+00:00 Huge thanks for the CA policy fix. This was driving me nuts. Makes total sense in hindsight of course since we always exclude the sync accounts from CA policies but didn't click here.
