MS Word 2019 : "Too many spelling errors to continue" when many fields are present.

Hello,

I have a question about the spell checker of WORD 2019 (Windows 10), which seems to display a rather strange behavior for documents that include a lot of PRIVATE FIELDS. I looked for an answer to this problem on this forum, but I couldn't find anything so far.

The context of my question is as follows:

  • I have a document that contains thousands of PRIVATE fields of the form " PRIVATE ABCDEF ", and which are positioned throughout the document (about 200 pages long).
  • These fields are all set to not be checked by the spelling and grammar checker, as confirmed by the presence of "<w:noProof />" in each section "w:r" in the document.xml file. In this document, the fields are also surrounded by XML fields disabling and enabling the spelling and grammar checker (via "<w:proofErr w:type="spellEnd" />" and "<w:proofErr w:type="spellStart" />")

The issue is that when I open the document, I get the message "Too many spelling errors to continue". This message is not normal since the document contains no error whatsoever. The issue persists even when the fields only contain the text " PRIVATE " or are empty, and there are no spelling errors when the fields are not present. I tried to switch to COMMENT fields, but it results in the same behavior.

This looks like a bug due to the fact that a lot of fields are present, but I'm not sure.

Do you have any idea about how to resolve this problem ? By the way, I use PRIVATE fields in order to store information that are used by a macro. These information are totally custom and it felt like PRIVATE fields were the adequate way to store that kind of data.

Thank you in advanced,

Best regards.

    Hi @Fabien Durand,

Did this problem appear in all Word document and the new document?

Where did you save the document?

Did you get the document from other people?

I suggest you check if you're using the same system language and Office language in PC, make sure they are the same.

If this problem appears in a specific document, try to save it in desktop.

Just checking in to see if the information was helpful. Please let us know if you would like further assistance.
