Windows 10 2004 printer displaying issue

Hello everybody,

we have some problems with displaying printers on Windows 10 Enterprise 2004 (Build 19041.508).

The printers are not displayed with the host name in the control panel. Instead, there is the model name of the respective printer. These display problems are also present in the Windows settings. If you choose one of the printers as default, the hostname appears in the control panel. If it is no longer a standard, it loses the host name again.

In addition, it takes more than 10 minutes to install a printer. Additional printers pending for installation will extend this time.

If you use a program such as Microsoft Word, all printers are correctly displayed with their hostnames in the printing area, even though the installation / setup of the printer in the control panel has not been fully completed yet.

Is there a known problem with the current Windows version? Is it related to drivers or driver versions?

I hope someone can help / support us with the problem.

Best regards

Our company is having the same exact issue... I've tested machines running on Build 1809, 1903 & 1909 and run without any issues. Any machine running build 2004 is having issues showing correct shared printer name (Ricoh or HP printers). Printers are being deployed via GPO.. printers deploy instantly with correct name on older builds but for build 2004 it takes forever for printers to install then doesn't display correct shared name...

Tried many things but haven't been able to find a solution. Seems this thread is only thing that exists on the internet when researching this same issue... has anyone found a solution?

Nope. It's a PITA, but at least the printer properties/preferences are accessible in Control Panel. Maybe Microsoft is deprecating Printers & Scanners and we are all going back to Devices & Printers. Soon they will be releasing Windows 7 2021.

This is crazy. Out of three computers only the one that was not updated will work with my Ricoh AC205 laser printer. The others list an unspecified type 103 device when I plug it in or unplug it on the usb port.

    Hi all,

I unfortunately don't have anything to add but I am also experiencing this issue with our users running on Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2. I tested with 1903 and 1909 with no issues but the issues start to occur from 2004.

Our printers are installed on print servers around our company and are shared to display in the print directory.
We use 80% RICOH printers and 20% Canon printers. All are using the latest print drivers available, the Canons have no issues and install instantly just as before. The RICOH's take around 5 minutes each, and typically most users require at least 2 printers (so 10 mins to setup!).

If anyone has anything to try then please let me know, if not I will keep checking back!

    Thanks,
    Mike

I have been struggling with this issue since Win10 2004 was released and it still is unresolved today.

Over the last several months, I:

    • Worked with Ricoh tech support.
    • Have had Ricoh techs come on-site, where they escalated the case to higher level techs, who sent them out again to collect more logs and data.
    • They then sent that off to Ricoh Japan (corporate), who then asked that the techs come out again and gather more specific logs/data.
    • That information, as well as videos showing the behavior, was sent to Ricoh Japan to review.
    • When weeks later, I finally I got the results from Ricoh:

"Ricoh Japan has identified that the PDL priority control operation of the FeatureScore function is the cause of the issue you’re encountering. The FeatureScore implementation in Win10 ver2004 seems to be at fault and would need to be addressed by Microsoft.
When Ricoh Japan had encountered a similar issue in the past related to FeatureScore, Microsoft’s interim recommendation at that time was to remove the use of the function from the driver’s oemsetup file. Ricoh has confirmed that such removal does correct the current symptoms and will begin implementing that recommendation with subsequent scheduled PCL driver updates.

In the meantime, they point out that the FeatureScore function is not used in the Ricoh Universal Print Driver. However, the existence of any affected model-specific Ricoh PCL driver on a system, whether server or client, may cause the same symptoms to occur with the Ricoh UPD. Therefore, please first remove any of the affected model-specific Ricoh PCL drivers (including removal from the ‘Print Server Properties’ dialog) before installing the Ricoh Universal Print Driver."

That news was given to me on 1/29/2021, where I was later told on 2/22/2021, that Ricoh plans on releasing an update to the PCL driver in later May. Not sure why it would take 3 months to create new drivers, but...

Hopefully someone fixes this sooner than later, whether it be Ricoh or Microsoft. I just wonder why the whole Ricoh customer base isn't up in arms complaining more about this issue. Why only a handful of us? Heck, trying to find this post on the web was difficult. I have a hard time believing that nobody else is deploying printers via GPO.
