I'm running Teams on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 (remote VM for working). Past month I have issue to open links in chats/team channels. When I click on hyperlink, nothing happens. I've checked default browser is set to Chrome. I've tried to: restart Teams sign out&in to our corporate account clear cache of browser and teams change default browser restart whole computer reinstall application I've tried to do the steps both separately and all of them at once with the computer restart at the end. Got final response from Microsoft Support: this is well-known issue with Server 2016 for about a year now. As Server 2016 is out of maintenance support, there will be no fix. The issue is related to maximum character URL-limitation by OS. Two possible workarounds: update to Server 2019 disable SafeLinks Policy in Security AdminCenter (including exeption for BuiltIn-default-policy) and wait 24h The issue propagates through all tenants starting about a year ago... so some organisations are affected for quite some time and some only recently.

Same issue on a server 2012 r2 RDS environment. I will tested on a 2016 RDS environment and a 2016 citrix VDI environment shortly.

I have tested a few environments and found that hyperlinks do not open in a browser on: Server 2012r2 RDS Server 2016 RDS But they will work in server 2016 Citrix VDI. Did anyone find a solution for this?

I also have the same problem on Server 2016 RDS. Updated to latest version (1.6.00.16472 (64-Bit)), tried changing default browser without any changes. No links within teams are opening.

For us the solution was to upgrade to 2019. IT infra guys told us there is an issue on 2016.

Not yet, I am waiting for our overhelmed IT security department to check the link security policy.

Unfortunatelly I found, that I cannot open links only on virtual remote desktops (explicitely Citrix VDI and remote desktop on virtual Windows server). On my physical laptop I can open the links correctly.

Based on your description, this doesn't seem to be an issue with the Teams client. To further troubleshoot if this is an issue with your security policy, check to see if this is the case for others in your organization.

I did more testing and could successfully click links on server 2016 using teams account of diffrent tenant within same RDS-Session. So this might not only be related to Server 2016 but to specific tenant settings, like safe-links?
This is reproducable - without changing RDS-Session itself but switching between users within teams-client. We opened a case with Microsoft and will have a look...

We've an case open since 8 weeks - problem has been escalated and is still being discussed between windows- and teams-engineering teams. No results so far - but as there has been no further questions from support-team which might show they could reproduce this issue within their test-environments.

You might open a support case as well - the more cases, the more pressure ;)
