Why is Windows 10 switching between Enterprise and Pro Automatically

We have a lot of Windows 10 machines that come with Win10-Pro license included within the BIOS. These machines are then imaged with a Windows 10 Enterprise 21H2 image and connected to our network. What we're finding is these machines are switching from Enterprise to Pro status randomly. Some of these machines switch back-forth/back-forth whereas others have remained on Enterprise their whole time; or remained on Enterprise for a substantial period of time and have just switched to Pro.

These machines are all managed the same way and the users all are logging in with a corporate E3 license where Windows 10 activation is enabled.

Please advise why these Win 10 machines would be switching between Enterprise-Pro / Pro-Enterprise.

Thanks,

Jason

    Hello @Jason Steeves

Most likely there is a conflict between the E5 licensing (which will upscale PRO to ENT) and the current license in the Enterprise image. What is the type of key used in the Enterprise image (is it KMS, MAK?)
Can you also verify if SA is active in the machines that are re-imaged with Enterprise? To verify the Windows Enterprise E3 or E5 subscription, go to Settings, select Update & Security, and select Activation.

For more info refer to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/deploy-enterprise-licenses#step-4-verify-that-enterprise-edition-is-enabled
