What are the pre-requisites for setting up Microsoft Intune

Question

I want to understand pre-requisites for enabling Microsoft Intune for my environment. I have around 300 Windows 10 OS Azure VM that runs MSOffice, NodeJS, Python, Adobe Acrobat reader etc. I use GPO to update Windows security patches automatically and rest apps are updated manually.

Will Intune help manage patching for all these third party apps. Also, help me with the cost of the Intune. Is this possible to provision Intune and create POC for a few Windows 10 and see the results before actually using it for PROD.

Intune is only for Windows Client and its 3rd party app update capabilities are quite fresh, not mature yet. You need at least M365 Business Premium license to use Intune. And sure you can always test stuff :)

To deploy app, there are many types of apps we can deploy. Some can update automatically. Others needs to do it manually.

To manage windows update, Intune can create update ring policy to specify how and when Windows as a Service updates your Windows 10/11 devices with feature and quality updates
