Citrix, Windows Server 2016, Outlook O365 and FSLogix Roaming Search, working for some but not all users, please help

We are using non-persistent Citrix VDI on Windows Server 2016. We recently installed the Office 365 applications into our VDI and also setup the roaming search, via Multi-user Search and the Profile container.

We set:

• Set HKLM\Software\FSLogix\Apps (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2
• Set HKLM\Software\FSLogix\Profiles (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2

The weird issue is the Outlook search indexes are storing on the Profile for our early testers, but for all the users added since their search indexes seem to be part of Windows.edb. This means each day after the nightly VDI image regen, they have to rebuild their indexes and I see heavy write IO on the Windows.edb file.

I have gone through all the troubleshooting articles I could find and we appear to have our settings correct. Indexes continue to work correctly for the early testers, but not work correctly for recently added users and they are all in the same VDIs with the same registry settings and GPOs.

Is there a setting stuck in their profiles?

Any suggestions for additional things to test or check?

Hello there,

FSLogix 2201 and newer do not allow FSLogix Search roaming on versions of Windows that natively provide per-user search indexes. Per-user search indexes are natively supported by Windows Server 2019 version 1809 and newer, as well as all versions of Windows 10 multi-session and Windows 11 multi-session.

Since Server 2019 (Windows 10 multi user), Windows Search support per-user search indexes, thus enabling search roaming is not advised.

Only until server 2016 this was required. I have set up an amount of RDS environments including windows 10 multi user (AVD).
