When I start a new doc, on the top it has a long square box. As I type, everything has a box, for example, one paragraph is in one box, and it goes on throughout the whole document. The border is set to None. How to delete it? Thank you!! Screenshot 2023-04-17 at 12.31.08 am

This has nothing to do with the normal template.

No repair is needed, nor will one help with this. What you are seeing are Text Boundaries.

These show up but do not print. They are annoying and originally were useful.

You can turn them off under File > Options > Advanced (Windows version) User's image

    Hi @Peishan Guo,

Try this method and re-set Word custom settings.

    1. Close Word.
    2. Press the Win + R:
      %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
    3. Move or rename Normal.dotm.
    4. Open and close Word. A new Normal.dotm file is created.

After this method if this issue is still existed, you can do an online repair for Office:
