Teams name changed to object ID after AD migration to azure.

We recently migrated our AD to azure. During the migration some users teams name shows their object ID when you search for them in the teams app. The user TESTUSER shows up as this "##########******@domain.com" This only occurs on 4 of our 100 users. I have found no way to change the ID back to just the user name. The users IM address shows the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the Teams display name of the user in question also an Object ID?

Does the search on the Teams web client display correctly?

Please follow the steps below to check the user's information in the Admin Portal.

Sign into the Office 365 Admin Portal with an account in the desired tenant with the appropriate administrative rights.

In the left-side menu, expand the Admin Centers section at the bottom and then select the Azure Active Directory option to launch the admin console in a new browser window.

Select Users.

Browse to or search for the desired user, then select the account name to view the user account's profile information.

The Object ID is located in the Identity section on the right.

The users name and tile show correctly in teams web and mobile. The issue is currently with the teams windows/mac app. When searching for the user it shows their name and object ID. Attached is a screen shot showing the issue.

Hi

Based on your description, this seems to be an issue with the desktop client. Try clearing the client cache to check if it works. If you're unlucky, replace another device or reinstall the client.

This is a global issue with all desktops 100+ currently on the azure domain. Local and remote. Mac and windows 10/11. This is not just on one machine. Mobile devices do not show the issue.

Do other people have 100+ unusual usernames when searching for users?

You can try the following steps:

Check the user's AAD attributes to make sure they have the correct display name, email address, etc. You can use the Office 365 admin center or the Azure portal to view and edit a user's properties.

You try to force a cache cleanup for all users in your organization as you did in the following article to see if that works: How to Delete Microsoft Teams Cache for All Users.

If the user's AAD attributes are fine, you can try using PowerShell commands to resync the user information.

Any news about this? We habe exactly the same problem and could fix it by editing the SIP address in Exchange, but we need to know what causes this issue!

Other users can see the Object ID name in teams when searching for the effected users. The users object ID seems to be in their IM address/SIP address. This is on multiple clients and freshly installed machines. I have deleted the teams cache on local machines. When running Get-CSonlineUser on the effected user I can see SipProxyAddress : ******@website.com Could this be causing the issue?

I think it‘s time to raise a ticket with MS. We have about 400 users with this phenomenon and the management asks whats going on…although its not a major impact currently but we need to know what is causing this behavior.

I will suggest to raise a high priority ticket with Microsoft and escalate via the regional managers so this can be looked into. Seems like few orgs are impacted.

We have around 300 users and around 20 have this issue too - Initially I thought it might have been a recent issue but it appears that users that were created over 12 months ago also are having this problem.

This also affects the ability of the outlook client to display presence for the affected user from the teams provider.

I've raised a ticket with MS but the engineer in charge still investigates the issue.

We are seeing the same thing but haven't just migrated, have been in Azure AD for many years in a Hybrid setup synching from on-prem AD to Azure AD. We are only recently noticing that when searching for some of our users in Teams the name is displaying as ObjectIDFirstname.Lastname format. Has anyone had any answers from Microsoft? I've just opened a ticket myself.

I never got an answer from microsoft or CDW on this issue. This happened to 30 of our users. I ended up going to the office 365 exchange then to the users mailbox. Then on the user page click Manage email address types. Look for the users SIP address and delete the object ID that is attached to it but leave the ******@yoursite.com. The change should take around 48hrs to replicate from what I have seen. This should solve your issue. I would recommend trying it on one user as a test. I had a couple users that did not get message notifications on teams for around 1-2hrs after I made the change.

We used the following powershell command to resolve it - we had around 20 staff with the issue and could not determine whether the users affected had anything in common as some had been created in our AD / Azure AD over a year previously. I suspect a timeout in update or sync of data may have been the cause and because the Teams account had been created, no-one had thought to raise an incident.

get-csonlineuser -Identity <upn of user> | Grant-CsTeamsUpgradePolicy -Policyname UpgradeToTeams

This will also appear to have no effect until the teams client cache expires - this usually takes around 3 days - I did the above for the 20 users on a thursday night and by monday all were showing as they should.

Thanks for your responses that has helped me to identify what is happening and why. We are changing to E5 licenses so those users that didn't have a teams phone already now do and have SIP with objectIDfirstname.lastname which is what teams is displaying.
