Why do pinned tabs pop-out into new window when selected?

When clicking on a pinned tab it automatically pops-out as a new window making it both terribly frustrating and impossible to reorder pinned tabs. Is there a workaround for this, or a way to disable this stupid feature/behavior?

    Hi, Tianyu,

I just did a reset to General as you suggested and I still have 100% repro rate on the same version (see attached gifs for more details, i had to split them in two parts due to 3mb limit av_options.gif & av_tabs.gif).
    Here are the repro steps:

Tools > Options > Tabs and Windows > Document Tabs >

check Insert new tabs to the right of existing tabs

check Show tabs in multiple rows

    Also go to:

Tools > Options > Tabs and Windows > Pinned Tabs >

check Show pinned tabs in separate row

Now pin some tabs and then try to reorder the pinned tabs.

    Thank you,

    Hello @ionut djon iancu ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I can’t reproduce this issue on my side with the latest version of VS 2022(17.6.2). I suggest you try to reset VS settings => Tools > Import and Export Settings… > Reset all settings > No, just reset settings, overwriting my current settings > General > Finish.

If it doesn’t work, try to disable any installed Extensions and test again.

If possible, please share us a .gif picture for further check.

Feel free to let us know the results.

    Update1:

This is a known issue and has been fixed in Visual Studio 2022 version 17.7 Preview 1, currently, not in Visual Studio 2022 version 17.6.2. Please follow up this thread: Clicking pinned tab drags window out and unpins for more details.

    Sincerely,

    Tianyu
