Hello community! I hope you can help me with this issue that I’m facing.

There is only one device of 800 in the company that is not able to enroll to MDM. See error below "Your account has reached the maximum device limit for connecting to your work or school".

I've been researching a lot and have not found a solution. By default the device limit is 5 and I do not want to change that setting. I've:

  • Deleted unused devices under the user account. After deletion, there are 3 therefore it should let enroll. Error still.
  • Forced to sign out all user session in 365. Error still.
  • Revoked device sessions in Azure. Error still.
  • Reset the enrollment settings under Device type restriction > Platforms settings > Windows (MDM). Made sure is ALLOW. Error still.
  • Set to local admin rights to the user account and then tried to enroll the device. Error still.

I have no issues with other devices nor user accounts. This laptop has a fresh OS install. I even tried to enroll the account on another device to rule out if the issue was on the device, same error. That means the issue is tied to the user account. Any advice? Thanks!

Have you also deleted devices from AAD? Deleting them from Intune will not automatically delete them in AAD, you need to do that too.

Thank you both for your response. Let me share these screenshots:

On both sides the devices show the same for this particular user. Let me share the device limit and devices per user:

What else can I do? Please suggestions!

Finally, I found out the issue! Yes, the license was all good for that user. The issue was in Intune. The old devices were still tied to the user account as "not evaluated" and those devices were previously deleted as you saw in my priors scree shoots. After deleted the devices not needed (005, 013), the device in question let me enroll with no issues.

Now the question is, why this happens?
