Windows recognizes the "apps> default apps> choose defaults by file type - .wpd is registered to word" and yet when I try to open a URL link to the file ending in .wpd - excel states no program is registered to open this file

    Hello Chris,

Thank you for your question and for reaching out with your question today.

You can try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Confirm file association: Double-check that the file extension .wpd is correctly associated with Microsoft Word. To do this, go to "Settings" > "Apps" > "Default apps" > "Choose default apps by file type." Scroll down to find the .wpd extension and ensure that "Word" is selected as the default app to open .wpd files.
    2. Reset file association: If the file association is already set correctly, but you're still unable to open .wpd files in Word, you can try resetting the file association. To do this, go to "Settings" > "Apps" > "Default apps" > "Reset" (under the "Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults" section). This will reset all file associations to their default settings.
    3. Open the file from within Word: Instead of double-clicking on the .wpd file directly, try opening Word first and then use the "Open" option within Word to browse and select the .wpd file you want to open.
    4. Repair or reinstall Microsoft Office: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it's possible that there is a problem with your Microsoft Office installation. You can try repairing or reinstalling Microsoft Office by going to "Settings" > "Apps" > "Apps & features." Locate Microsoft Office in the list, click on it, and choose "Modify" or "Repair" (options may vary depending on your Office version).
    5. Check for updates: Ensure that you have the latest updates installed for Microsoft Office. Open Word, go to "File" > "Account" > "Office Updates" (or "Product Information" in older versions) and check for any available updates.
